POSITION OVERVIEW:

Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center seeks creative, forward-thinking educators to fill a variety of roles in our Jewish Learning Center. JLC (Jewish Learning Center) is an in-person, creative, inquisitive, justice-minded Jewish learning program for student’s grades TK/K through 7. We have openings in a variety of grades and are looking for dynamic educators to join our team.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Prepare dynamic lessons and submit lesson plans to the Director: Youth and Family Programs prior to class sessions.

  • Create a warm, welcoming safe classroom environment for learners to express themselves, question, create community, and learn.

  • Prepare and send a follow-up email after class to families.

  • Set up and clean up the classroom.

  • Attend monthly team meetings.

  • Additional meetings as needed.


WHO YOU ARE:

  •   You have relevant experience working directly children in grades K-12. You LOVE kids

  • You are a clear communicator who can adeptly code switch when addressing kids, adults, the community, and other audiences.

  • You have knowledge of at least one of the following: Jewish holidays, Torah stories, Jewish values and ethics, Jewish history.

  • You have strong internal drive and plentiful energy.

  • You are adapatable and can think quickly in the moment when the unexpected happens

  • You are committed to the work of tearing down systems of oppression, including oppressive systems within organized Jewish life. You uplift and actively make space for those in the community who are marginalized, especially BIPOC, multiracial, trans, queer, and interfaith folks. You are rooted in the principles of anti-racism, feminism, and pluralism.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous teaching experience (preferred)

  • Ability to formulate a diverse, active lesson plan using a variety of mediums (art/cooking/music/sports/etc.) for the classroom

  • Knowledge of Jewish culture

  • Knowledge of Jewish holidays

  • Comfortable working with children

  • Comfortable in front of groups

  • Strong classroom management skills

  • Attentive and on-hand in case of an emergency

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment

  • Basic Hebrew skills (preferred)
