In this new role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of Hillel at Binghamton. With the largest Jewish population of any New York Hillel, the opportunity for impact is boundless as you help improve the lives of thousands of Jewish students.

Hillel at Binghamton seeks a Campus Director who will lead Hillel’s presence  on campus and in the local community. They will have the skills to connect, engage, motivate, and inspire a diverse Jewish population and will develop the skills to build key strategic relationships with local leaders and university administration.  The Campus Director will devote their time in the areas of campus administration, Jewish education, student programming and related operational management. This person will play an integral role building and maintaining the culture of Hillel at Binghamton, leveraging the wonderful campus community and all the intersections with Jewish Life.  The Campus Director will be based in Binghamton, NY and will report to the Chief Executive Officer, who is based in New York City.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Planning, Vision and Leadership, in partnership with CEO:

  • Develop, articulate and promote a dynamic and innovative organizational mission and vision for the Hillel
  • Create and manage an implementation plan including supporting new initiatives and sustaining ongoing programs
  • Implement a system for tracking and measuring success
  • Use performance data to iterate on programs and update goals
  • Exhibit leadership during times of celebration and challenge

Stakeholder Relations: 

  • Cultivate caring and strategic relationships with all stakeholders, in partnership with the CEO: students, board of directors, university leaders, faculty, Jewish community leaders, and alumni and parents globally
  • Serve as the representative of the Jewish community on campus, and promote awareness of campus-based needs and issues in the local Jewish community
  • Work strategically with the university so that the campus Hillel is an integral component of the college experience; creating strategic alliances with different departments and schools and representing the Jewish community on campus
  • Advocate on behalf of Jewish students and Jewish interests, and utilize appropriate organizational resources in the Jewish community
  • Develop appropriate university and community relationships, both formal and informal, to ensure that Hillel can respond appropriately and effectively to relevant events and developments which impact Jewish students and the Jewish community

Jewish Education & Engagement

  • Create a pluralistic, inclusive and innovative Jewish educational vision for the Hillel
  • Facilitate Jewish programming on campus, engaging with and encouraging students to develop meaningful Jewish journeys and experiences
  • Demonstrate comfort with Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts and communicate this knowledge to others.
  • Serve as a Jewish educational resource for others
  • Ensure broad and deep education on Israel
  • Inspire interest in Jewish Life
  • Serve as a strong Jewish role model
  • Work cross-denominationally to encourage and promote an inclusive approach to religious expression through holiday and Shabbat observances, Jewish learning and other related experiences
  • Facilitate leadership development initiatives as well as wide range of opportunities to explore and celebrate what it means to be Jewish

Supervision & Mentorship

  • Inspire, develop, supervise, and mentor student life team that delivers on a vision of pluralism, inclusivity, and student leadership development
  • Cultivate a culture of staff excellence and professional growth
  • Create and model an effective work/life balance structure for the organization

What You’ve Accomplished

  • 5+ years of professional work experience including a proven-track record in informal Jewish Education. Experience in management roles in the Jewish or secular nonprofit, higher education, or mission-driven organization world is a plus. 
  • Success with:
    • Building student engagement and leadership development programs and opportunities.
    • Inspiring interest in pluralistic, diverse Jewish life.
    • Stakeholder relations.
    • Fiscal budgeting.
  • Led organizations or programs with a proven and measurable track record of innovation and sustainable growth. 
  • Successfully partnered with a non-profit board of directors, granting foundations and grant issuing organizations. 
  • Ensured sound financial management practices including budgeting and cost controls.
  • Executed against a strategic plan for an organization or projects, with measurable goals, and successfully implemented and evaluated that plan. 
  • Experience with a wide range of Jewish practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. We will consider a range of candidates’ experiences and credentials.

  • Willingness and desire to travel to Israel, occasionally multiple times a year.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $60,000-80,000 depending on experience.
