6th Grade Educator

We are seeking a 6th Grade Classroom Teacher able to work on Saturday morning from 10:00am-12:15pm. Teachers are expected to arrive no later than 9:45am. 

SAJ is the first ever Reconstructionist Synagogue, founded by Rabbi Mordechai Kaplan, and Makom is our growing education program. Above all, SAJ strives for Makom to be welcoming and inclusive for all learners and their families. 

General responsibilities: 

• Plan weekly lessons based on school curriculum with the support of the Director of Education 
• Facilitate lively educational experiences on Saturday mornings, encouraging the use of critical and creative thinking
• Support the socio-emotional well-being of individual students and encourage their connection with other learners
• Summarize learning each week in a 2-3 sentence communication for parents
• Coordinate with teen assistants who offer help in the classroom
   

Ideal candidates have the following qualifications: 

• Experience teaching in a religious school setting
• Familiarity with Jewish religion and culture 
• Inclusive and welcoming attitude 
• Excitement about building community
• Desire to encourage kids to utilize critical and creative thinking skills 
• Commitment to supporting all learners, including those who are neurodivergent
• Embrace of all kinds of students and their families, including Jews of color, LGBTQ+ Jews, Sephardic and Mizrachi Jews, and folks from low and middle income backgrounds
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
