Job Title:     Program Manager, Youth Engagement and Inclusion

Status:        Full TimeSalary Exempt

Reports To: Director of Lifelong Learning

Schedule:    Academic year, Monday-Thursday and Sunday mornings

                    Summer schedule, Monday-Friday

ABOUT US

Congregation Emanu-El, the first Reform Jewish synagogue in New York City, is hiring a full-time Program Manager, Youth Engagement, for the Lifelong Learning Department. The work of the department is to transform and revolutionize congregational youth engagement, with the primary responsibility of creating informal programming and creating an inclusive culture for all students to feel welcomed, valued and celebrated.  Visit our website at https://www.emanuelnyc.org/school/ to learn more about our school and our congregation, our educational vision, and the programs we offer.

As a key member of the department, the Program Manager, Youth Engagement must be a strategic thinker, strong collaborator, and enthusiastic leader who inspires positivity. This creative position incorporates expertise in youth, inclusion, direct teaching, and administrative skills.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Together with the department team, develop innovative informal youth programs for K-6th grade students and assist with 7th-12th grade informal youth programming
  • Recruiting new students into our youth programs and guiding their participation, retention, and achievement by building sincere personal relationships
  • Work to create a new vision and implement informal programming for all students and families
  • Lead an inclusive practice, pedagogy, and culture while providing support and information to staff and parents on the inclusion of all children at Temple-Emanu-El
  • Provide ongoing communication with families regarding inclusion and their children, including IEPs and 504 plans
  • Work closely with the Assistant Directors of Lifelong Learning, teen leaders, and participants in teen programming and help to facilitate their successes
  • Serve as a lead in immersive experiences for youth
  • Serve as part of our faculty to begin building relationships with students.
  • Support our online Hebrew tutoring program
  • Help with administrative tasks for the department as deemed necessary
  • Create and coordinate a schedule for K-6 youth engagement.
  • Recruit new students into our religious School and youth programs and support their participation, retention, and achievement
  • Welcome new families while building relationships with all members of the community
  • Staff Shabbat, holiday, family, and special programs that may occur outside of school and operational hours
  • Serve as a mentor to young people in our community
  • Additional duties will be assigned based on skill set

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in child, psychology, social work, or education
  • At least one year experience in informal educational experience; Jewish camp experience is a plus
  • Excited to be a part of a team
  • Achievement-oriented, passionate, fun, and responsible, with a good sense of humor
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Effectively sets priorities and manages multiple tasks
  • Strong understanding of family dynamics and child development
  • Brings new ideas and the drive to implement
  • Familiarity with the Hebrew language and Reform Jewish liturgy, and is comfortable working in a Reform Jewish environment
  • Background and experience in technology; knowledge of Salesforce is a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends, provide support during the High Holy Days, and attend events, or meetings, as necessary
  • Flexibility to work staggered hours at times to cover evening or weekend events
