Job Title: Director of Development

Position Summary: As a member of the Executive Management Team, the Director of Development (DoD) works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) on the strategy, oversight, and execution of annual fundraising goals. The DoD manages a team of development professionals with a goal of renewing and increasing revenue year over year. The DoD will serve as a partner to the CAO and Director of Marketing & Communications to plan and execute ambitious fundraising objectives. The DoD will collaborate with JFS and Development staff and be an inspirational, passionate, energetic leader with the skill, vision, and drive to take JFS to the next level in donor research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, individual giving programs, event support to meet or exceed fundraising goals.

Salary Range $72,000 to $118,000 per year

Hiring Range $85,000 to $110,000 per year



  • Bachelor’s Degree             


  • A minimum of five years of experience managing, mentoring, and building a team of successful fundraising professionals. Preference for management experience of 3+ employees.

  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in fundraising, with a proven track record meeting or increasing revenues and an expansion or overall donors.

  • Colorado-based fundraising experience a plus, along with the professional designation as a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE).

  • Experience with fundraising CRMs.

  • Solid fundraiser who understands stewardship and cultivation and can do a strong ask and can close a significant gift.

  • Self-Motivated person with enthusiasm, positivity, tenacity, and resilience with the ability to achieve goals and perform a task with little supervision or direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to: manage numerous complex tasks simultaneously; anticipate and meet deadlines; use time effectively; problem-solve independently in a small staff atmosphere; and function in an often stressful and quick turn-around environment.



  • Excellent leadership, team building, management, and communication skills.

  • Possesses excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with donors, corporate leaders, volunteers, and staff.

  • Displays mature judgment, superior diplomatic skills, highly developed listening, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.                     

  • Familiarity with Jewish culture and local community, preferred.


Internal Management

  • Day-to-Day oversight and management of three development staff: Identifies, recruits, oversees, coaches and mentors these team members.

  • Possess and continually update deep and robust understanding of JFS programs and services to be able to communicate our impact to donors and effectively share information with other fundraisers/relationship managers.

  • Invests in the success of the Development team through regular individual, team, and department meetings; professional development commitment; and performance and accountability measurements.

  • Mentor and coach direct reports to foster the Development Team’s collaborative environment.

  • Work with Gift Administration Specialist to implement gift processing best practices and maintain donor and funder records, ensuring the accuracy and efficacy of the donor database.

  • Maintain atmosphere for outstanding teamwork through clear expectations and frequent communications.

Program /Campaign Management

  • Works in partnerships with the CAO and Director of Marketing & Communications to plan, implement, and execute annual development plans and strategies.

  • Develops a balanced plan for relationship managers to execute on solicitation, cultivation, stewardship, and ask.

  • Executes monthly giving program based on when donors give to JFS throughout the fiscal year.

  • Implements continuous data analysis that informs internal fundraising decision making based on data and trends.

  • Oversees and serves as subject-matter expert for all JFS Legacy Society donor conversations and planned giving strategies.

  • In collaboration with CAO and the Associate Director of Development, Special Events assist in the planning and execution of spectacular, successful, and compelling fundraising events that meet our myriad and robust goals.

Portfolio/Donor Relations

  • Maintains a personal portfolio of approximately 100-125 relationships through active management and solicitation of donors through the fundraising cycle

  • Create relevant and compelling engagement opportunities, specifically for major and mid-level donors, which align donor interest to the organization’s strategic objectives.
