Temple Beth Shalom Preschool Jewish Educator
TEMPLE BETH SHALOM (TBS) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, seeks a Preschool Jewish Educator (Shorashim, meaning “roots”), starting summer 2025, who is passionate about Jewish identity and learning. This person is the source for Jewish experiential learning for our TBS Preschool and our community’s youngest family members.
WHO WE ARE: Temple Beth Shalom is a welcoming and inclusive Reform synagogue in the unique and culturally rich city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The extraordinary beauty, vast skies, and stunning sunsets of the high-altitude desert lend to a profound sense of spirituality.
The oldest and largest Jewish community in Santa Fe, now with around 300 households (about 800 individuals), TBS continues to grow. Our community is guided by our Rabbi of 11 years, and our Executive Director has been with us for 7 years. Our staff are kind, creative, and collaborative; we work in partnership with lay leadership, committees, and volunteers.
TBS celebrates the diversity of our community. We strive to inspire and model compassion and love in each other and in our ever-evolving tradition. We value the interpersonal wellness of our congregants and contribute to the wellbeing of our larger Northern New Mexico community. Our members often speak of TBS as extended family.
EDUCATION IS A CONTINUUM at TBS; all ages and stages contribute to the sustainability of our community and durability of our tradition. Supervised and supported by our Rabbi, as Shorashim Coordinator, you help to shape our Jewish future. The scope of this position includes:
- Conduct and engage kids in weekly Preschool Shabbat.
- Spend time in each classroom each week.
- Conduct monthly in-service with teachers and staff monthly on Jewish content.
- Advise Director on Jewish content.
- Serve as resource for parents seeking to support Jewish content at home.
- Tot Shabbat service once monthly – 5:30-6 pm, before the main service.
- Tot service on Rosh Hashanah.
- Participate in Preschool Committee with Preschool Director and Vice President of Education.
- Collaborate on Jewish holiday experiences that are creative, engaging, and fun!
QUALITIES YOU BRING:
? Excitement to inspire and enthuse ? Solid knowledge of Jewish holidays and values ? Ability to connect with young children ? Ability to lead an age-appropriate, participatory service ? Creativity ? Experience with teacher training is a plus ? Desire to engage in family education ? Positive attitude ? Passion and compassion ? Communication skills ? Role model in the larger Jewish community ? Relevant credentials / education experience desirable.
THE DETAILS:
This is a year- round, part-time position, approximately 6-8 hours on-campus hours per week
[including Thursday and Friday mornings, one Friday/month 5-6pm] plus some Jewish holidays.
Rate = $35.00/hour. Background check required.
