About Jewish Family Service (JFS): Jewish Family Service is a vital arm of the Columbia Jewish Federation, dedicated to serving the social service needs of Jewish individuals and families in the Columbia metropolitan area. Under the leadership and umbrella of the Federation, JFS provides a broad array of programs, services, and referrals designed to support, empower, and enrich the lives of those it serves.
Position Summary: JFS seeks a warm, dynamic, and collaborative Director to lead the organization in delivering client-focused services and community programs. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, effective communicator, and compassionate leader with experience in clinical service systems, organizational management, and program development. The Director will oversee both direct service provision and volunteer engagement, while also playing a key role in fundraising and grant development.
Reporting Structure: The Director reports to the Executive Director of Columbia Jewish Federation and works in partnership with Jewish Family Service’s Advisory Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all day-to-day activities of Jewish Family Service
- Recruit, supervise, and engage volunteers to support JFS initiatives
- Oversee and support programming for Jewish seniors
- Develop and implement new community-based social programs
- Plan and execute JFS-sponsored Shabbat programming
- Serve as liaison to Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF)
- Administer emergency assistance funds and Jewish camp scholarships
- Provide brief assessments and referral services for community members
- Manage a small client caseload, offering case management as needed
- Develop systems to monitor, evaluate, and report on program activity and impact
- Prepare and present regular reports to Federation leadership and the JFS Advisory Committee
- Support grant writing efforts and seek new funding opportunities
- Ensure all programs align with the mission and values of Federation and JFS
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work or related field (e.g., clinical/community psychology)
- 1–3 years of professional experience in human services, community programming, or nonprofit management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Knowledge of grant writing and reporting processes
- Familiarity with Jewish traditions, customs, and life cycle events
Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000, commensurate with experience
