The Investment Office manages the endowment and pension plan assets of the UJA-Federation of New York. The assets are invested with external managers globally across a broad range of asset classes and strategies including public equity and credit, hedge funds, private equity and credit, and real assets.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Engineering and Analytics Manager will have the opportunity to work in a small, flat investment organization supporting the management and oversight of the UJA-Federation’s investment assets. The ideal candidate will be an analytical problem solver with a passion for data engineering, analysis, and visualization. This role will provide exposure to an endowment’s decision-making process in the management of a multi-asset class portfolio providing familiarity and training with data and risk management methodologies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the data infrastructure for the Investment Office (IO). The candidate will work to understand the nature of all the data sources and uses for the IO and maintain infrastructure, including a SQL database, to facilitate data validation and use.
  • Maintain and build process tools for the operations of an investment office. For example, expand the use of JIRA Project
  • Management software beyond the current use as a trade management system.
  • Craft custom data analytics tools in Tableau and Excel to empower the IO to make informed and strategic investment decisions. These include tools for returns-based and holdings-based risk analytics for various asset classes and strategies. The candidate will work with the IO to continuously improve these tools based on feedback.
  • Aid other departments across UJA in automation of reporting. Utilize Streamlit to facilitate the use of Python scripts.
  • Create dashboards to visualize macro-economic and fundamental data for asset allocation decisions.
  • Work on ad-hoc investment related projects as directed by the Director of Investments or CIO.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will be an intellectually curious, self-motivated individual who is analytical, detail-oriented, and has strong problem-solving skills. Strong quantitative, analytical, and data visualization skills are essential. The candidate should be enterprising in their ability to leverage software tools to create functional reports that are easy to use.

COMPETENCIES

  • Proficient at learning and working with different software systems; strong abilities in Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and Python; working knowledge of SQL
  • Experience aggregating, validating, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data
  • Self-motivated with an ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines while working on multiple projects
  • High level of attention to detail. Seeks to learn from mistakes and is willing to ask questions to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the work product
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, teach users, and work as part of a team

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate degree, preferably in business analytics, finance, data science, or engineering
  • At least five years of experience managing data for an organization, preferably a financial firm.

SALARY RANGE
$150,000 to $200,000 plus bonus potential, commensurate with experience

We offer a generous number of vacation days and have the Jewish holidays off as well. Fridays our offices close early (October to March at 3:00 pm and April to September at 4:00 pm). All so you can relax and recharge.
