Description
San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) is proud to offer education to children as young as 9 months through 12th grade.  We are currently seeking a compassionate, energetic, and experienced Toddler Teacher to join our Early Childhood Center (ECC) program.  This position is ideal for a warm, engaging educator who understands the unique developmental needs of toddlers and is committed to nurturing their growth through play-based learning, consistency, and connection.  The ideal candidate is a mature, positive team player with a heart for young children, a strong sense of professionalism, and a desire to co-create a loving and stimulating environment alongside dedicated colleagues.

You will be kept busy with:
  • Developing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans and daily classroom schedules for toddlers, aligned with SDJA's ECC curriculum and philosophy
  • Creating weekly newsletters to keep families informed about toddler activities, milestones, and learning goals
  • Actively supervising and engaging with toddlers through responsive, developmentally appropriate interactions that support social-emotional growth
  • Observing and documenting each toddler's developmental progress and needs on an ongoing basis, using this information to inform instruction and communication with families
  • Supporting toddlers with their basic needs, including feeding, diapering, and rest routines, in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment
  • Building strong, supportive relationships with families through regular communication and collaboration
  • Following all SDJA ECC policies and procedures, as well as state and local regulations related to health, safety, and quality of care
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and inviting classroom and outdoor play area; participating in daily cleaning, disinfecting, and general upkeep
  • Participating in ECC team meetings, professional development workshops, and school community events
  • Supporting the smooth operation of the ECC by assisting with transitions, supervision, and other duties as needed/directed
You’re good at:
  • Demonstrating warmth, empathy, and patience in every interaction - with toddlers, families, and colleagues alike
  • Collaborating effectively with a team and maintaining a sense of humor and flexibility in a fast-paced toddler environment
  • Communicating clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Prioritizing tasks, staying organized, and handling sensitive information with professionalism
  • Adapting to changes with a positive attitude and creative problem-solving mindset
  • Upholding high standards of safety, cleanliness, and supervision - because you understand toddlers depend on you
You bring this to the table:
  • A true passion for working with toddlers and a deep understanding of their developmental needs and behaviors
  • At least six (6) months of experience working with children, ideally in a licensed early childhood setting
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to foster trust with young children and their families
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of caring for active toddlers, including lifting up to 50 lbs and supporting children in various positions throughout the day
  • Comfort using cleaning and sanitizing products to maintain a healthy learning environment
  • Stamina and mobility to bend, squat, kneel, sit on the floor, and move quickly as needed to ensure toddler safety and engagement
Education Requirements:
  • 3 units in Child/Human Growth and Development
  • 3 units in Child, Family and Community or Child and Family Relations
  • 6 units in Child Development Program/Curriculum
  • 3 units in Infant/Toddler Development
What we can offer you:
