Scheck Hillel Community School www.ehillel.org seeks a Chief Operating Officer (COO) 

The COO is responsible for providing tactical and strategic oversight, management, and  planning of all aspects of the daily physical operation and maintenance of the school’s campus and  programs. The COO is central in campus planning and will work closely with the Head of School, the Core  Leadership Team and the Board of Governors’ Building Committee on initiatives related to the school’s  aspirations for enhanced and expanded facilities and strong community connections.  This is an in-office position and reports to the Head of School. 

The COO directly supervises the Sr. Director of Operations, IT Director and Facilities Manager.  Additionally, the COO has general oversight of the following departments: Information Technology,  Security, Health Services, Campus Operations (Events, Front Office Reception, Mail/Package Delivery,  Carpool, and Transportation), Facilities Maintenance and Capital Expenditures, along with managing  external service contracts including Dining Services, Cleaning Services, and additional Security Services.  In collaboration with outsourced vendors the COO manages all construction, renovation, and  maintenance projects, as well as operational agreements and site-sharing with the adjacent Jewish  Community Center. Reporting directly to the Head of School as part of the Core Leadership Team, the  COO works closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Chief  Institutional Advancement Officer (CIAO), and other school leaders to fulfill the mission, vision, and  brand of the school. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Ensure the smooth and successful daily operation of the school’s campus and facilities, including oversight of events held on campus 
  • Supervise and mentor their direct reports in their short-term and long-term projects 
  • Provide leadership and strategic planning in all areas of oversight, including the school’s Facilities Management, Building expansion, IT, Security, Events, and Operations programs 
  • Build a strong customer service culture within the Operations Divisions for both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Oversee the School’s food service operation through a third party contracted food service provider, ensuring a high quality, student-oriented dining experience  
  • Oversee campus activities and other auxiliary programs and rentals
  • Oversee the planning, contracting and administration of all capital projects for the School, providing budgetary projections and timelines, and managing the ongoing budget 
  • Determines, with support from CFO and Head of School, the annual budget for the Operations Divisions, and manages compliance with this budget throughout the fiscal year 
  • Perform contract negotiations and management, for all major service providers (food service, housekeeping, grounds services, etc.) 
  • Ensure compliance with all codes and regulations governing the use, construction, maintenance and improvement of site and facilities 
  • Fosters, maintains and manages relationships with State, County and local community  organizations 
  • Manages and coordinates the School’s global calendar. 
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Operations and the Security Director, supervises Safety  and Security initiatives to support campus safety and risk management efforts, including  oversight of the school’s campus safety equipment - video cameras, electronic doors, alarms,  etc. 
  • Serves in a leadership role on the Emergency Response Team including physical safety  emergencies, weather emergencies, and health emergencies as well as taking responsibility for  designing and implementing fire related protocols and drills, weather related protocols and  drills, campus lockdown procedures, and campus evacuation procedures 
  • Collaborate with CIAO in capital campaign planning and fundraising related to campus  operations 
  • Oversees All purchasing for FFE (Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment) for School operations 
  • Provides logistical oversight for all School events 
  • Provides direction and guidance to the School community, for stewardship in resources, waste  management and energy management 
  • Attends board meetings as needed and serves as administrative liaison to the Board’s Building  Committee.  
  • Actively engages with PTA and other parent groups to obtain and analyze parent feedback  regarding the School’s operations, and implements improvements if applicable 

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (engineering, business administration, architecture, construction management, or a related field) required.  
  • Visionary leader who is able to honor the School’s mission and vision 
  • Proven skills and experience leading and working successfully in a diverse environment 
  • Demonstrated success in senior level facilities leadership or operations positions within an educational institution, or other non-profit organization 
  • An exceptional and strong collaborative leader with strong internal motivation, follow-through, and strong executive functioning skills to successfully manage large teams and work with a diverse group of constituents
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, listening, and written communication skills  
  • Knowledge of design, construction and renovation protocols 
  • Sound fiscal management skills to develop and administer budgets 
  • A high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google suite, and project management tools. 
  • Ability to establish, implement and maintain operational policies, procedures, controls and standards in a complex environment with multiple demands and on time and attention 
  • Demonstrated strategic and long-range planning skills 
  • Creativity and innovation 
  • A passion for educating students and an understanding of how operational functions can support the School’s mission 
  • Spanish fluency is a plus. 
  • Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed
Salary175,000.00 - 205,000.00 Annual
