Job Description


The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley is looking for a motivated and energetic Program Director to
join our dynamic team. Responsibilities will include oversight and leadership to develop, implement, and
evaluate our Federation’s programs while working closely with our Executive Director, professional staff,
and board of directors to ensure that programs align with the organization's mission, vision, and
strategic goals.


This position is a full-time, salaried position. The oversight and day-to-day management of programs and
long-term strategy to grow the portfolio of programs and revenues make this position an excellent
opportunity for a successful candidate who is looking to take the next step in his or her career.


We are seeking a creative problem solver who enjoys working independently as well as on a team.
Experience in summer day camp programming for youth K-7 is a must as our summer camp is one of
our community’s most beloved crown jewels. In addition, we are looking for programming expertise to
keep us at the forefront of Jewish cultural events and in the established areas of social justice, wellness,
family, and adult/senior programming, Holocaust education, and civic engagement.

Our Community


The Federation of St. Joseph Valley has strong roots in an area commonly known as Michiana. Our
service area includes 5 congregations, Chabad, an extensive eruv, a mikvah, a kosher food truck (under
development), a summer day camp, a Jewish Day School, a Jewish Girl’s high school, a boy’s Yeshiva,
and a Jewish Family Services agency. Home to several highly acclaimed learning institutions, including
the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend, and Ivy Tech Community College. Our
cultural amenities include minor league baseball, a symphony orchestra, civic theater and opera, several
art museums, and a zoo. In 2022 South Bend received the Gold Medal, the top award in the field of
Parks & Recreation. With beautiful surroundings and low cost of living, easy access to Lake Michigan and
Michigan wine country (45 minutes) and Chicago (1.5 hours), this area we call home provides a high
quality of life for individuals and families of all backgrounds and interests.


The Program Director will have the following responsibilities:


Leadership
• Take an active interest in career growth, including learning new skills, staying current in
community-building trends, and constantly innovating and taking calculated risks
• Take an active leadership role within the organization as well as build relationships within
the Jewish and broader community
• Participate as a member of the Federation's leadership team and provide support to coworkers
to develop a high-performing team across departments
• Working with the Director of Community Engagement to regularly assess programming
effectiveness and community needs while developing the “Federation brand” position and
opportunities for engagement and growth for individuals and families of all ages and stages


Management
• Work with Executive Director and department heads and provide supervision to other
programming employees, such as our Israeli Culture Ambassador as assigned
• Assist in preparing the annual budgets for all assigned programs and monitor and provide
feedback on monthly program budget statements
• Co-create, implement, and evaluate systems and processes with Executive Director for core
program department functions, such as attendance tracking, sales, and outreach
• Help develop the brand identity for each program in line with the organization's mission,
vision, and market demand


Programming
Plan and execute select programs and events throughout the year.
• Inclusive and robust Jewish Life. The Programming Director will develop and support
sophisticated and creative engagements that revolve around the Jewish calendar and
holiday cycle.
• Children, Youth, and Family Programming. The Programming Director will continue to build
on the success of our Youth & Family programming, including Summer and Winter Camp
and PJ Library.
• NEXTGen and Beyond. The ideal candidate will provide management assistance and
programming input to our NEXTGen, Adult, and Senior programming committees.
• Social Justice, Wellness, Holocaust Education and Community Engagement. The
Programming Director will work closely with the Executive Director to accelerate
transformational change to make a difference in our community and our extended Michiana
community.
• Camp Ideal. We look for bright, fun, enthusiastic, and hard-working staff with a passion for
working with kids and a love of the outdoors. The Program Director will also serve as Camp
Ideal's Director with the ability to champion the spirit and mission of this 70-year-old
program.
1. The Director will develop and implement a year-round communication and
stewardship plan for Camp families and prospective Camp families
2. Maintain an inclusive camp environment for campers and staff, rooted in Jewish
tradition and values but inclusive or our many non-Jewish campers that come to
us from our larger Michiana community
3. Oversee day-to-day operations, processes, and procedures to ensure a safe,
positive experience for campers and staff


Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience
• Minimum of one-year management/supervisory experience
• Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to accept guidance, constructive feedback, and support
• Excellent computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn new
systems quickly
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or ability to obtain
• Knowledge of the Jewish professional field and Jewish culture, traditions, and celebrations,
or a willingness to learn
• Flexibility with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and move rapidly from one project to
another


Compensation
Salary range of $40,000 to $55,000. Salary will be commensurate with education, qualifications, and
experience. Benefits include medical insurance, retirement plan, paid sick and vacation time, and cell
phone.


Location and Commitments
Work hours span some evenings and weekends. This is an in-person position at the Jewish Federation.
This is a leadership position that requires flexibility and deep commitment.
