Position Details:

Job Description: Kadima Day School is seeking a talented and innovative leader to serve as the lead educational professional of the elementary and middle school. Reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as an integral member of the leadership team, the Principal will be responsible for all activities involving students and faculty in the elementary and middle school. Successful candidates must bring a strong knowledge of teaching and learning and proven experience managing the educational program of a Jewish or independent school. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  1. To maintain congruence between the school’s board-approved mission statement and all activities of the elementary and middle school.
  2. To act as the educational leader of the elementary and middle school, responsible for its day-to-day operation; to direct the activities of the members of the school's instructional and, in conjunction with the Director of Finance, non-instructional staff in the performance of their duties.
  3. To function as the chief articulator of the school’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed, consistent with their individual roles.
  4. To observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic programs.
  5. To provide an orderly environment in which learning can take place, a school climate which is supportive and which reflects high morale.
  6. To be aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of the school community and to develop plans for meeting these needs.
  7. To ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; to maintain the educational standards established by the State of California and by those agencies that examine and accredit the school.
  8. To make recommendations to the head of school regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty.
  9. To establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school operation.
  10. To strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each teacher.
  11. To conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal with training in teaching skills, as well as the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational interest and concern.
  12. To oversee the coordination of the co-curricular and extracurricular activity programs of the school; to assist in the planning and the presentation of school programs and assemblies; to assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events; to keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
  13. To provide for the academic guidance of students; to maintain complete academic records on all students; to oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
  14. To be responsible for establishing guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; to maintain student discipline consonant with school policies; to monitor students’ adherence to established school rules; to maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
  15. To be a visible presence in all areas of the school; to work toward a resolution of all problems – both routine and unique – as they arise; to keep the head of school informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school.
  16. To prepare a master class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
  17. To serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of teaching methods, classroom management, and general school procedures.
  18. To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.
  19. To support the school and its leadership.


  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Five years of successful teaching experience preferred
  • Three years of successful educational leadership experience preferred
  • A passion for Kadima’s mission, vision, and accomplishments
  • Superior interpersonal skills: warm, friendly demeanor, ability to connect with people, great listening skills, an abundance of patience and compassion, excellence in relationship building
  • Team player: we are a highly collaborative environment, and a successful candidate would have the ability to accomplish tasks both solo and with partners
  • Innovative thinking with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Superior management skills, including organizational skills, ability to juggle numerous tasks and prioritize, manage a full schedule, respond timely to communications, and set short-term and long-term goals
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
  • Hebrew fluency preferred

Salary: $115,000-$125,000
