At Temple Beth Am we deepen relationships to Judaism and our community by engaging the soul, heart, and mind. Temple Beth Am’s Beit Am (House of the People), is made of three rooms: the Beit Tefillah (House of Worship), the Beit Kehillah (House of Community), and the Beit Midrash (House of Study). All professionals at Temple Beth Am are collaborative, relational, and work to support all three rooms of our Beit Am. 

As Temple Beth Am’s Development & Membership Manager, you will advance the mission by helping create a culture of philanthropy at Temple Beth Am. You will be responsible for implementing mission-aligned systems, procedures, programs, and activities in all three rooms, furthering the creation of a congregational culture of philanthropy, and for moving Temple Beth Am toward a congregant-/donor-centric community. This position reports to the Executive Director and serves on the operations team.  

Primary Job Functions  

Membership/Annual Commitment: 

  • Ensure that communications and opportunities around membership provide prospective and current members with an understanding of the value of membership and give them opportunities to joyfully support Temple Beth Am 
  • Oversee the data collection and management necessary for supporting membership and congregant engagement 

Mission-Based Development: 

  • Work with the Executive Director, clergy, and lay leaders to implement opportunities to give annually through areas of interest (funds, events, and lifecycle moments) 
  • Educate and engage congregants in opportunities to express their Jewish values through philanthropy to Temple Beth Am, and where appropriate solicit gifts 
  • Support the goals of the board, Senior Rabbi, and ED relating to a culture of philanthropy 
  • Support the implementation of the ongoing strategies and initiatives related to the financial sustainability of Temple Beth Am 

 Leadership Development for Community Committees: 

  • Help identify congregant leaders and support connecting them with meaningful opportunities to lead and show their support of Temple Beth Am through Community Committee service and engagement  
  • Attend and support community committees as directed by the Senior Rabbi or Executive Director 

Donor Recognition 

  • Ensure timely acknowledgment and appreciation of all gifts to Temple Beth Am 
  • Where contributions are made in honor or memory of another person, ensure honorees are informed in a timely manner 
  • Support board advisory committee initiatives to improve recognition of donors and support a culture of philanthropy

Qualifications 

  • 2+ years of formal or informal development and donor solicitation experience 
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Experience with database and software 
  • Experience with building professional yet personal relationships with constituents
  • Experience managing teams and/or volunteers
  • Ability to problem-solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment 
  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions and rituals or the ability to learn quickly 
  • Excellent customer service skills 

Classification:  Full Time In Person

FLSA Category?  Exempt  

Salary Range $78,000 – $85,000
