Congregation Beth El Communications Manager

Mission Statement:

Congregation Beth El is a Conservative synagogue whose mission is to create a home for every soul by offering a variety of Jewish experiences to nourish the mind, heart, and spirit, while being a caring Jewish community.


We seek a communications manager to provide and/or oversee all community-wide electronic and print communications with the goal of informing the synagogue and wider community in support of Congregation Beth El’s programming and initiatives. The Communications Manager will also maintain the congregation’s website, email lists, and facilitate Zoom/virtual sessions as necessary.

As a member of the congregation’s program and administrative team, the Communications Manager helps with organizational messaging and branding, online presence, creating print and digital designs, and social media strategies.

The Communications Manager will be supervised by the Program Director for communications content and strategy and report to the Director of Administration related to operations and technology.

 This position has the potential to be a hybrid working environment.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Design and edit email marketing materials, including weekly and focused newsletters.
  • Manage and maintain website content, including weekly Shabbat schedule and live events information including calendar, event registration system, and regular updates to enhance user experience.
  • Design and edit weekly printed leaflets for Shabbat Services and/or programs.
  • Design or oversee the creation of promotional and programmatic print and electronic materials.
  • Help conduct media outreach, draft press releases, and produce direct advertising for various print and online platforms.
  • Work with staff members and affiliate groups to assist them in communicating with their communities.
  • Collaborate to provide online content, video and text, as appropriate. (If able and interested, oversee Livestream events.)
  • Manage all social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).

The successful candidate is a personable and experienced team player who is interested in supporting our vibrant, welcoming, and growing congregation. 

 Required Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or minimum five years relevant experience in communications
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact), producing marketing materials and website design and content management
  • Experience with social media management
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Graphic Arts experience, including Adobe, Canva, and InDesign
  • Self-starter; able to work independently and enjoys creating new projects and strategies
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and shift from project to project
  • Appropriate computer skills, along with experience using ShulCloud, and digital communications

  • Open, flexible, and innovative. Must enjoy working with people and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Desirable (but not required):

  • Experience working in a non-profit setting.
  • A general knowledge of Jewish ritual, holiday and life-cycle traditions.
  • Experience/exposure working for or volunteering with a synagogue or other Jewish service organization.

Salary: Competitive and Commensurate with Experience, includes Health Benefit(s) and 403(b)

Position is non-exempt and reports to the Director of Programing.
