Congregation BJBE, a vibrant and innovative Reform synagogue in Deerfield, Illinois, is excited to welcome an experienced Administrative Assistant/Communications to our team! In this role, you will report to the Executive Director, supporting the overall communications strategy and online presence through the creation of written, digital, and electronic content. The ideal candidate will be excited to tackle the challenges of developing engaging content consistent with our mission and values, as well as highly self-motivated, meticulous, and compassionate. Communications:

• Participates in the development and execution of a communications strategy, including social media and website content
• Maintains an appropriate workflow to ensure that all time-sensitive projects are completed and that deadlines are communicated to the team
• Develops and executes social media and email campaigns for key days, themes, and priority upcoming content
• Manages content on the BJBE’s website; maintains digital media archives including photos and videos
• Identifies target audiences and creates strategies to increase engagement and awareness for initiatives and events
• Tracks account analytics, and stays up-to-date on current research and trends; report on the effectiveness of all communication types BJBE is currently using
• Oversees the messaging for large synagogue functions, including High Holy Days services, annual Gala fundraiser, and other major events and programs
• Collaborates with committees and staff to develop engaging content, ensuring that all communications and marketing materials align with design standards
• Prepares weekly newsletter and materials for services, as well as content for weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings
• Designs, edits, proofreads, and revises all marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, postcards, invitations, and advertisements
• Creates and manages database and online programming/event forms and registration
• Responds to media inquiries
• Maintains internal communications planning calendar
• Provides technical support for congregational and lifecycle events across all digital platforms


Engagement:
• Provides support for prospective member activities including events, meeting with prospective members, and oversees messaging
• Prepares membership materials; enters all prospective members and new members into database; sends all prospective member and new member letters
• Supports overall engagement efforts including participation in program planning and implementation which may occur on some evenings and weekends

Essential Skills:
• Creative, with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment; resourceful and takes initiative even when given minimal direction
• Able to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities
• Expertise with social media channels and emerging sites/apps and demonstrated ability to use them effectively to deliver content
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for writing for multiple audiences and in multiple mediums (print, online, and social media); must be able to compose engaging and accurate content
• Excellent written, presentation, verbal communications and interpersonal skills
• Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
• Ensures the integrity of the BJBE calendar relating to all programs and events, in coordination with other staff
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); must be computer savvy and possess the ability to learn new programs quickly
• Supports overall BJBE administration, answering phones and in-person questions from congregants as needed
• Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator) preferred
• Experience with copy editing


Salary: Commensurate with experience, includes benefits
Bachelor’s in English, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent education and 2+ years prior experience in a communications or marketing role preferred
