Hebrew Teacher (4th-8th Grades)- Full Time 

Starting January 2022 

Irvine Hebrew Day School is an independent K-8 WASC accredited Jewish day school located in Orange County, California. We are looking for an experienced full-time or part-time Hebrew Educator for grades 4th-8th. Candidates must be eager to elevate classroom learning, promote a collaborative and collegial school culture, and foster a sense of unity within a diverse school community. 

Qualified candidates should possess the following: 

  • Strong knowledge of teaching Hebrew as a second language
  • Hebrew native speakers preferred
  • A growth mindset and a passion for collaboration and innovation
  • Experience with proficiency approach is a plus

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum, use instructional materials with fidelity and provide individualized, small group, and whole group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry-based methods, group discussion, experiential learning, and project-based learning to meet learning objectives 
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive atmosphere in the classroom utilizing a Positive Discipline approach to classroom management 
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports three times per year
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment that is conducive to successful learning
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, organized, healthy, academically, and behaviorally effective classroom environment appropriate to ongoing and changing classroom activities and in accordance with all accrediting, regulatory, and governing organizations 
  • Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner including student progress report cards, and assessments, and annual goals 
  • Create a curriculum from overarching ideas or themes related to Jewish and Hebrew Studies 
  • Communicate with parents through face-to-face meetings/Zoom, regular email, conferences, and other means to discuss students’ progress
  • Participate in scheduled on-site professional development programs, staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, school-wide events, off-site field trips, and IHDS Board Meet and Greet

  • Exhibit strong ability to build connections with students, to develop an atmosphere of respect and empathy, and to build a classroom community 
  • Understands principles of social, emotional, and cognitive development  
  • Demonstrate an ability to differentiate instruction within a heterogeneous classroom setting 
  • Use educational technology to maximize student engagement 
  • Approach problem-solving in a positive, creative and encouraging manner 
  • Teach students in a fair, warm, and open-minded environment 
  • Maintain open communication with students, parents, and administrators about students’ progress 
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching team to plan and facilitate daily activities and special  programs 

Schedule of Teaching: Teachers are expected to be on campus from 8:00-3:30 daily and also attend weekly staff meetings after school. The Hebrew teacher’s instructional schedule includes classroom instruction, tefillah Hebrew instructional lessons, special holiday event presentations, learning celebrations, classroom meetings, and recess supervision. Teachers are expected to be available outside the school work hours for phone calls, special events, and in the case of an emergency.
