REPORTS TO:         Manager of Adult Education

CLASSIFICATION:             Full-time, Non Exempt

 Who We Are:  Founded by Michigan survivors to create a lasting memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, The Zekelman Holocaust Center (“The HC”) is guided by its mission to engage, educate, and empower by remembering the Holocaust. The Center is one of the largest and oldest Holocaust museums in the United States and we have welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors to our museum. Our 55,000 square foot facility is home to our newly renovated multi-million dollar permanent exhibit featuring our extensive collection of survivor testimonies, artifacts, archival documents, paintings, and films, an authentic boxcar, and a sapling from the tree located outside Anne Frank’s hiding place window that is described in her diary. Embedded in the community, the Center is home to over 50 trained staff members. Our robust Education Department offers school and adult groups customized tours, educational workshops, and professional development training programs. Guests are empowered to apply the lessons learned to create a compassionate society where people take responsible action.

Summary of Responsibilities: The role of the Adult Education Associate is to help create and facilitate Holocaust education programs to adult populations in Michigan. The role also consists of assisting with outreach and the scheduling of groups and docents to help to provide stewardship for the Adult Museum Education Program (AMEP). This position within our Adult Education Program works as an AMEP team member and provides necessary support for the program and larger education department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • AMEP Facilitation & Stewardship
  • AMEP Operations
  • AMEP General Outreach
  • General Education Department Support

 AMEP Facilitation:

  • Responsible for facilitating adult education tours and programs with AMEP team
  • Assist with docent stewardship and general docent affairs
  • Manage docent scheduling of museum tours
  • Help to develop adult education content and facilitation for in-person, virtual, and on-site programs when needed
  • Help to be a thought partner in creating new educational programs and engagements
  • Assist the AMEP Operations Associate with the main floor staff to greet AMEP groups and help with their itinerary while at the museum

 AMEP Outreach:

  • Assist in the outreach to engage new and recurring general adult groups for AMEP
  • Help with correspondence and scheduling of adult groups for museum tours, virtual programming, workshops, and any other engagement between The HC and adult groups
  • Responsible for inputting AMEP group reservations and data into Altru
  • Help with organization of AMEP documents and data for reporting

 AMEP Operations:

  • Assist in the data collection and inputting of information into the AMEP calendar 
  • Work with the main floor staff to greet AMEP groups and help with their itinerary while at the museum
  • Help with organization of AMEP documents and data for reporting
  • Manage feedback form and follow-up correspondence to groups as well as data collection
  • Assist the AMEP Outreach Associate with general outreach needs

 General Education Department Support:

  • Assist in the development and facilitation of professional development programs in Holocaust education for Michigan teachers
  • Available for student tours and VMEs as needed
  • Assist at HC events as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

 Requirements:  

  • BA in history or relevant social science degrees, MA preferred
  • Education and research background in the Holocaust
  • Proficient in Microsoft technology (excel, word), preferred experience in Blackbaud Altru
  • Outreach and networking experience preferred
  • Teaching experience appreciated
  • Independently motivated and detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • The ability to work productively with people of different backgrounds and perspectives
