JEWISH TEACHING JOB
Temple Sinai of Glendale, a vibrant and inclusive Reform Congregation in the east San Fernando Valley, is seeking a fourth-grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This is a position in the Religious School, which meets Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons at our synagogue in Glendale, CA.
We are looking for creativity, flexibility and initiative. Specific training and expertise in child development and teaching methodology are also highly valued, but what we want most are teachers who love Judaism and are excited about the opportunity to pass that love to the next generation.
For Fourth Grade, we need a teacher with a strong knowledge of Jewish traditions connected to the celebration of life cycle events, from birth and naming customs to the practices surrounding death and mourning. This class also studies a part of the Tanakh that is unfamiliar to many Jews, the stories of the later prophets and kings. The Hebrew focus for our students in fourth grade is simple decoding, but this teacher also needs a command of Hebrew of the “synagogue skills” variety (with the ability to add Hebrew Through Movement games and simple conversation for students who are motivated but training is available). This class meets twice weekly, on Sunday mornings (9:30 to 12:30) and Wednesday afternoons (3:45 to 5:45).
Please email your resume to [email protected], or text to 818-915-3518. If sending via postal service, direct to the attention of the Director of Education at Temple Sinai of Glendale, 1212 North Pacific Avenue, Glendale, CA 91202.
Salary is based on experience and training.
