Temple Beth Avodah seeks a full-time Grades 6-12 Education Director to join our inclusive, nurturing, and progressive Reform synagogue in Newton, MA. Our congregation consists of approximately 425 families with a vision to be a home and safe space for our congregants where “the door is always open and the lights are always on”.  We believe that each child and family need to be nurtured to learn, grow, and connect in ways that are unique to them and seek an educator who shares our vision and personalized approach.

This position joins a strong staff team with a focus on relationship building and providing the best possible experiences and connections for our members.  TBA has a long history of supporting youth programs and professionals. This position requires some evening and weekend commitments. We are committed to a flexible and supportive work environment that meets both the individual and synagogue’s needs. We are seeking someone with previous experience in youth and/or experiential education who is interested and capable of serving in a director level leadership position.  The start date is flexible as we are seeking the right candidate to fill this new position.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Set a vision and structure to create a dynamic, innovative, and multifaceted Judaic learning environment for grades 6-12 students and their families
  • Create strong relationships with parents, children, and teachers and provide social emotional support
  • Work collaboratively with staff and clergy to integrate grades 6-12 into the broader vision and goals through ongoing evaluation and reflective practice
  • Provide mentorship, leadership development, and growth opportunities for students
  • Oversee logistical and administrative aspects of grades 6-12 programs including budget management, calendar planning, communications, onsite supervision, and tracking/registration
  • Supervise grades 6-12 education staff providing them with curriculum, resources and support including youth group advisor, group leaders and teachers

The Director of Grades 6-12 is responsible for the oversight of all programs in this age group. Below are our current opportunities available, however, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to connect our students and families. 

  • Weekly middle school program that includes partnership with B’nai Mitzvah preparation and family programs
  • Weekly high school program
  • Teen Intern program (includes classroom assistants as well as other forms of internships)
  • Youth group events and high school youth group leadership board
  • Rosh/Shevet gender based groups
  • Trips and retreats such as shul-ins, NYC, D.C., and Israel
  • Parent connections and learning opportunities

 

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Salary: $70,000-90,000
