 The Position 

The Accountant completes day-to-day financial transactions, prepares financial statements and ensures compliance with accounting standards and government regulations. The accountant supports the finance team and program directors so they can provide quality services to clients who are struggling with basic needs including food, mental health care, senior services, and child abuse prevention.

 Essential Functions 

  • Processes bookkeeping transactions, manages accounts payable and accounts receivable, and reconciles bank, credit card and investment accounts. 
  • Ensures compliance with all JFS, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations.
  • Prepares and processes payroll.
  • Prepares grant budget reports.
  • Manages Children’s Service Fund and client services billing.
  • Aligns general ledger accounting practices to support reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports.
  • Assists program directors with preparing annual program budgets and grant proposal budgets.
  • In coordination with the Finance and Administration Director, prepares annual operating budget.
  • Participates in the annual audit process. 
  • Assists with staff training in the areas of budget development, budget management, fiscal accountability, financial procedures, human resources and others, as needed. 
  • Ensures a positive and productive work environment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Complies with all JFS policies and standards.

Requirements:

  • Accounting Degree Preferred
  • 2 or more years of non-profit experience preferred
