Membership Engagement Associate

The Membership Engagement Associate reports to the Director of Membership Engagement and plays a key role in helping congregants of all ages and your professionals regardless of affiliation build meaningful connections with each other, Wilshire Boulveard Temple and its Clergy. As a member of the Membership Engagement team, this position also supports a range of membership duties, including assisting with High Holy Day services, new member events, and general membership department duties along with serving as a primary connector for new and current members.

Specifically, working closely with Clergy, lay leaders, and staff across all three campuses, the Membership Engagement Associate helps manage and facilitate engagement groups and programs that reflect the diverse demographics of the Temple community. Engagement groups include the BLVD (young professionals), women's and men's groups, Choosing Judaism (conversion program) alumni, new members, and other identity or interest-based demographics. Through the cultivation of personal relationships and the support of meaningful programming, this role enhances Wilshire Boulevard Temple as a place where Jewish individuals can find connection, belonging, and purpose at every stage of life.

Primary Duties

  • Assist the Director and department in developing and offering meaningful and creative programs for congregants that engage and inspire them socially, culturally, communally, charitably, and intellectually with Jewish life, including:
    • Signature temple events and programs on all three campuses
    • Support the planning and implementation of New Member events and initiatives, including New Member Bagel Brunches, New Member Dinners, and Member Appreciation Week
  • Support membership operations, including High Holy Days preparation, day-of logistics, and ticket processing
  • Serve as a connector and faciliator for new and current temple members, with a focus on individuals in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s
  • Facilitate college-aged children of Temple member outreach and connections
    • Working with associated Clergy, coordiante engagement for college students through personalized outreach, including texts, emails, 1-2 events annually,, and care packages
  • Serve as the staff liaison and primary point of contact for Temple Engagement Groups, working collaboratively with group co-chairs, committees, and Temple staff/Clergy to plan, and support group programs, while ensuring strong communication and coordination:
    • Coordinate group co-chair/committee meetings (both in person and via Zoom)
    • Plan a yearly events calendar and maintain engagement programming budget(s)
    • Create detailed implementations plans
    • Ensure appropriate staffing, including secuirty, if necessary, at all events
    • Work with Information Systems to keep data and group lists updated and uncontaminated
    • Partner with the Communications Department for marketing emails, Temple-wide annoucements, and registration
    • Work with the Temple Events team to manage day-of-event logistics and bring the event's vision to life
    • Execute tracking and data analysis of every event
    • Build an intentional follow-up protocol after events to identify new people and recurring participants who could be engaged further
  • Connect engagement group co-chairs, committee members,  and group members to other Temple-wide programming, such as the religious services and retreats
  • Field interest in engagement programming (phone calls, texts, emails) to connect them to lay leaders and Temple Clergy
  • Connect congregants and the BLVD members to Temple clergy and other Temple programs and services, including a possible yearly Temple trip to Israel
  • Other tasks as defined by the Director of Membership Engagement

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to navigate confidential or sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion and maturity
  • Comfort with databases (ideally Raiser's Edge or Salesforce-style platforms), spreadsheets, and Google suite
  • Familiarity with Jewish life and synagogue cultrue preferred
