We are seeking a rabbi who is, first and foremost, motivated to help us to create the warm, inclusive and welcoming Jewish community that we all wish to be part of. One of our members described the ideal as “a scholarly humanitarian”. We seek a graduate of a recognized rabbinic training program who is fluent in Hebrew and Jewish texts and able and enthusiastic to teach us. We want to continue our tradition of musically inspiring and pleasing services, so the rabbi should be able to lead services in that manner. This is a very important skill for our members.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the pastoral care of older adults, be interested in and able to form personal relationships with many individuals and be able to teach Jewish values in many different contexts and venues.
Our rabbi needs to be open to providing personal counseling and support to members experiencing stress, loss, illness and crises.
We need rabbinic support in community building. Our rabbi needs to be willing to participate in lay led activities to that end.
We are a group with varied educational and Jewish experiential backgrounds. The rabbi should be willing to work with individuals with all levels of Jewish knowledge and beliefs.
Our rabbi will be our model for Jewish living. While we are liberal on the issue of halachic observance, we want a rabbi who lives in a Jewish home and lives a personally meaningful Jewish life.
