Temple Israel of Great Neck, a vibrant, egalitarian Conservative synagogue in close proximity to New York City, is looking for a teen educator to coordinate and direct all aspects of our multifaceted teen program known as Youth House. This includes supervising and teaching Hebrew High School classes; creating and executing experiential programming for Shabbat, holidays, tikun olam, leadership training, Israel education. The director will be responsible for continuing to build our youth program, and will be a mentor and educator working with families as they navigate the b’nai mitzvah process. In addition, this person will be involved in the planning and executing of congregation-wide retreats, as well as family-based retreats and Shabbat experiences. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Congregational School, the Teen Director is a member of a robust senior staff, including clergy, school directors and executive director, and will therefore be part of a collaborative team that discusses every aspect of synagogue life. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
? Directly supervise Tuesday and Thursday evening educational program for children in grades 7-12. This includes the creation and implementation of curricula, working with teachers, communication with parents, and serving as lead educator.
? Collaborate with Director of Congregational Schools, as well as other senior staff, in the visioning, programming and setting of educational goals for teen engagement
? Plan, recruit for, publicize and implement all teen programs: monthly Rosh Hodesh/Shevet Achim, Team Tikkun (tikkun olam projects), leadership training, Israel awareness, etc.
? Plan, recruit for, publicize and implement for all one-time teen experiences, such as Midnight Run, bone marrow drive, etc.
? Contribute, participate, and collaborate with senior professional staff in TIGN community building projects, such as synagogue-wide retreats and celebrations.
? Work collaboratively with the Controller to develop and oversee Youth House budget.
? Coordinate and supervise several Youth House Shabbat programs a year and teen family programming.
? Work with lay leaders on setting agenda and follow-through of the Teen Engagement Committee
? Implement and staff immersive trips, that include social action trips and a trip to Israel which occurs every other year.
? Mentor and work with b’nei mitzvah students through workshops and individual d’var torah preparation
