Job Title: Religious School Teacher

The Etgar Collaborative, consisting of Beth Sholom Congregation and Adath Jeshurun, is a vibrant, egalitarian Conservative Religious School, located in Elkins Park, PA. We are actively seeking innovative and passionate Religious School teachers to join our Etgar team. As an integral part of our community, our synagogues are committed to providing quality education that fosters a deep connection to Judaism and instills values of compassion, empathy, and lifelong learning in our students. We are looking for educators who are enthusiastic about using modern teaching methods to share their knowledge and love of Judaism with our students, engage them in meaningful learning experiences, and inspire them to explore their faith in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate, and experiential lessons in Jewish studies for Hebrew school students.
  2. Teach fundamental aspects of Jewish history, traditions, rituals, and values in alignment with Conservative Synagogue principles.
  3. Develop creative and interactive lesson plans that cater to various learning styles and encourage active participation.
  4. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes a sense of community and respect among students.
  5. Collaborate with parents, clergy, and educational staff to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
  6. Organize and participate in special events, holiday celebrations, and programs related to Jewish education.
  7. Provide regular feedback on students' progress and communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's learning journey.
  8. Uphold the synagogue's policies and values while instilling a love for Jewish learning in students.
  9. Stay informed about contemporary educational methods and integrate relevant technology into teaching practices.
  10. Attend professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends.
  11. Basic understanding of Hebrew language, both written and verbal
  12. Comfort leading classroom-based prayer
  13. Primary hours required are Tuesdays from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm and Sundays from 9:00 am - 12:15 pm.

Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge and passion for Jewish culture, traditions, and values.
  2. Understanding and adherence to Conservative Jewish principles.
  3. Experience in teaching, preferably in a religious or Sunday school setting.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues.
  5. Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  6. Ability to engage students through creative and innovative teaching methods.
  7. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
  8. Bachelor's or Masters degree in education, Jewish studies, or a related field

Compensation: $35-$55/hour, commensurate with experience.
