Description

Position Purpose:

To further the mission of Camp Judaea by leading the development and delivery of a ropes course program that is safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. The Ropes Course Coordinator oversees staff, programming, and equipment while fostering camper growth, confidence, and connection through challenge-based experiences. This role may be fulfilled by a staff member living on-site or commuting to camp as scheduled.

Must be available between May 24- July 31. 2026

Reports To: Director of  Specialty Areas

Core Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Development

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve ropes course programming across electives and group programming 
  • Ensure all programming is aligned with camper ages, abilities, and Camp Judaea’s values
  • Evaluate programs regularly and make real-time adjustments to improve impact and engagement
  • Collaborate with camp leadership to integrate ropes into broader camper experience goals (confidence, resilience, teamwork)

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Train, supervise, and support ropes course specialists to deliver safe, high-quality programming
  • Set clear expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Evaluate staff performance before, during, and at the end of each session
  • Create and manage daily staff schedules for ropes course coverage
  • Foster a culture of growth, responsibility, and strong role modeling among staff

Safety & Operations

  • Ensure the highest standards of physical and emotional safety on the ropes course
  • Oversee proper use, maintenance, and inventory of all ropes course equipment and supplies
  • Make recommendations for new equipment and program enhancements
  • Enforce all camp and ropes course policies and procedures consistently

Pre-Summer Planning

  • Communicate with the Director of Specialty Areas prior to the summer to plan staffing, programming, and equipment needs
  • Prepare training plans and program outlines in advance of staff orientation

Camp Community Engagement

  • Participate in staff training and key camp activities as appropriate to schedule
  • Model Camp Judaea’s values and contribute to a positive, inclusive camp culture

Qualifications

  • Previous experience  supervising or leading ropes course programming
  • Current ropes course certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Experience working with children and/or teens in outdoor or educational settings

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong ability to teach and facilitate ropes course elements with a focus on skill-building and personal growth
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop staff
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive, values-driven environment rooted in Jewish community
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with camp leadership
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that may include full or partial weeks on-site, depending on program needs
