Sixth & I is seeking a full-time Director of Community Engagement, reporting to the Senior Rabbi, Executive Director of Jewish Life, to oversee the Jewish Life Team's community-building strategy and manage the execution of its initiatives and programs.

This position offers a hybrid schedule with some remote work but must be located in the Washington, DC area to facilitate in-person community-building opportunities and two in-office days per week. Must be available to work an average of two nights per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision and Strategy:

  • Collaborate with Senior Rabbi to develop and outline the Jewish Life Team’s community-building strategy.
  • Manage successful execution of community-building strategy and provide logistical support for programming as needed.
  • Annually evaluate community-building strategy based on agreed upon outcomes and make adjustments to increase impact.

Programming:

  • Design and execute innovative large- and small-scale programs that connect people to each other and Sixth & I.
  • Increase the depth and breadth of Sixth & I’s community-building programming, growing the organization’s reach to bring in new people and deepening its relationship with those already engaged.
  • Relaunch Sixth & I’s Small Groups Initiative to support lay leaders building micro-communities centered around text-based conversations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand upon existing community-building components of ongoing programming at Sixth & I, including shabbats, holidays, classes and volunteer programs. Support Jewish Life programming as needed under the management of the Senior Rabbi.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Relationship Management:

  • Meet one-on-one with current and future Sixth & I community members, managing and tracking those relationships for team collaboration opportunities in our CRM.
  • Engage with those who attend ongoing programming at Sixth & I, including shabbats, holidays, and classes.
  • Connect and foster relationships between community members.

Systems Improvement:

  • Develop new or streamline existing procedures for community-building program management and execution.
  • Analyze and integrate survey feedback and other constituent data to inform and enhance relationship building and team decision-making.

WHO YOU ARE

  • A community builder. You have a minimum of 6 years of experience building caring, connected communities with at least 2 years of management experience.
  • Dynamic and engaging. You are good at connecting with a wide variety of people and love to facilitate connections between others.
  • You’re a self-starter, someone who likes experimenting and innovating with big ideas and can turn those ideas into reality.
  • Knowledgeable and resourceful. You have experience with event planning and project management. You have proven success working in fast-paced live event environments, exercising considerable judgement, and troubleshooting on your feet.
  • Customer service oriented. You understand the importance of and are committed to providing a high standard of customer service when engaging with patrons, program partners, and other stakeholders.
  • A team player. You enjoy a collaborative work environment and are passionate about being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven organizational culture.
  • Detail-oriented. You have a keen attention to detail and can efficiently multitask.
  • Committed to growth. You operate with a growth mindset, are receptive to feedback, and seek to understand different perspectives.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 25 pounds, and walk up and down stairs without accommodation.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Salary: Sixth & I has a comprehensive pay equity philosophy which weighs years of experience at a particular job level and competency to determine an equitable salary within our organization. This role sits in Sixth & I’s Level 4 salary band with a starting salary of $94,300.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Benefits: Sixth & I has a competitive benefits package that includes Health, Vision and Dental Insurance, Paid Vacation and Sick Leave, Retirement Savings w/ Matching Program, Pre-tax Transit Benefit, Paid Holidays, Parental Leave and more. In addition to regular vacation time and summer Fridays, our office is closed the week of July 4th and between Christmas and New Year’s, as well as for select Jewish holidays.
