North Shore Congregation Israel (NSCI) seeks an experienced Youth and Family Administrator to assist the program professionals in this dynamic and growing department. This staff person reports to the Director of Operations and is a member of Administrative Team. In addition, the candidate will understand how to collaborate with a others to leverage their knowledge, build their power, and use their skills.

About NSCI

NSCI, a reform synagogue located on the shores of Lake Michigan, is one of Chicago’s largest and most vibrant congregations. NSCI recently marked its centennial in 2020. Even with 100 years of history, NSCI maintains a forward-thinking approach to Jewish life and engagement. NSCI recently completed a highly successful capital campaign designed to help ensure a modern, safe, flexible and nimble environment for years to come.  

 

Job Responsibilities

Goodman Center for Jewish Education

  • Prepare and collect registration materials and tuition
  • Develop class lists with Education Director
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Communicate to parents and teachers to keep up-to-date
  • Prepare flyers for programs
  • Obtain forms for background checks and employment verification
  • Prepare and collect teacher letters of agreement
  • Arrange for substitute teachers
  • Maintain records of staff attendance
  • Prepare room set ups
  • Order books, materials and supplies
  • Provide support to students, parents and teachers during school hour

 

Youth and Family Center

  • Publicize YFC Programs
  • Take minutes at YFC meetings
  • Provide administrative support at programs

 

Other

  • Monitor incoming calls and visitors to the department
  • Assist the Admin Team with general tasks as needed

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Enthusiasm for the vision and mission of NSCI (www.nsci.org/Who-We-Are) and the role of synagogues in Jewish life.
  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience
  • Proven commitment to high level of customer service
  • Track record of a creative approach to event planning and development
  • Attention to detail and professionalism
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Ability to represent the Temple in public settings
  • Willing to work late days, Sundays, and during High Holy Days
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with different constituencies; staff and lay leadership
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, work well under pressure, prioritize, meet deadlines, and produce quality results on schedule
  • Strong skills as a project manager and team player who can collaborate well with peers and senior management
