The Davis Academy in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking passionate, innovative, and collegial candidates to fill the role of Judaic Studies Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The Judaic Studies Teacher at The Davis Academy will work collaboratively with the other members of the team to foster spiritual growth and an inspiring and engaging Jewish learning environment, integrating Jewish values, traditions and culture in teaching.

Description

The ideal candidate will implement a dynamic and diverse curriculum and be responsible for teaching in the areas of Tanach, Jewish holidays, and tefillah. They will experience a diverse population of learners with the ability to instruct them using differentiated instruction. In addition, the Judaic Studies teacher will be responsible for infusing Jewish life and learning into all areas of the curriculum, including by collaborating closely with general studies teachers to facilitate interdisciplinary assignments.

In addition, teachers will be responsible for assessing student learning, managing classroom routines and behavior, building relationships and communicating regularly with families, collaborating with other faculty, and modeling Jewish values for students. The Judaic Studies teacher will cultivate strong ties with the State of Israel and the Jewish people and will participate in planning school wide Judaic, holiday, and Israel programming in the school.

Additional Functions

Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.

Provides feedback and positive reinforcement to students.

Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

Meets with parents for formal conferences and informal conferences as needed.

Implements appropriate classroom management procedures.

Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out of class settings including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, lunchtime, and recess.

Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or Judaic Studies
  • Three years of teaching experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of and passion for Judaism.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  • Accepts supervision and constructive criticism objectively.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in handling school related incidents and events.
