Description

SAJ is seeking an engaging songleader to co-lead High Holiday Family Services alongside SAJ’s Director of Education and Family Outreach, who will supervise the songleader and be responsible for the non-musical components of the services. On the mornings of Rosh HaShanah First Day and Yom Kippur, we run two consecutive services - one for families with 0-7 year olds and one for families with 8-12 year olds. On Kol Nidre, we run a more intimate 45-60 minute service for families with kids 5 to 12 years old.

Candidate must:

  • Have at least 2 years of experience leading or co-leading children and/or families in prayer
  • Play guitar or a similar instrument
  • Have familiarity with the major prayers of the High Holiday season
  • Have a repertoire of contemporary music to draw from
  • Be willing to learn music that is familiar to the SAJ community (if you are not already familiar)

Pay is $3,000, which includes several preparatory meetings and one to two rehearsals with the Director of Education and High Holiday drummer.

SAJ is a Jewish home where everyone’s voice is valued and heard. Ever since SAJ introduced America’s first bat mitzvah in 1922, it has been reconstructing Judaism, wrestling with God, questioning tradition, and expanding its boundaries to ensure that Torah remains relevant, engaging, and welcoming to all.

We are also seeking a Song Leader for our vibrant Shabbat morning religious school. Please indicate if you are interested in both positions.

Please send a brief cover letter and resume to [email protected]
