The Contemporary Jewish Life Department oversees AJC’s educational and Jewish peoplehood initiatives, including:

  • Confronting antisemitism and anti-Israel activity on campus through work with university presidents and other administrators, DEI departments, students, and alumni;
  • Confronting antisemitism and anti-Israel activity in k-12 schools through work with heads of school and other administrators, DEI departments, students, and parents;
  • Empowering young Jews to be advocates, including through AJC’s LFT (Leaders for Tomorrow) high school program, Campus Global Board, and other Jewish communal programs;
  • Educating the Jewish community in general, and specifically AJC’s lay leaders, about Jewish identity, Jewish history, Israel, and antisemitism through programs and initiatives including Jewish American Heritage Month, educational sessions and training.
  • Working to foster close Israel-Diaspora relations.

 The Senior Associate will play a vital role in advancing Contemporary Jewish Life’s strategic vision, while working as part of a fast-paced and nimble team in all aspects of the department’s work. This position involves coordinating various activities, managing communication, and providing administrative support to ensure the department's objectives are met effectively. The ideal candidate should have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for contributing to AJC’s mission.

Responsibilities include:

Administrative Support:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the department head and team members.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records, documents, and databases relevant to department activities.
  • Coordinate scheduling, meetings, and travel arrangements for department members.

Communication:

  • Facilitate clear and timely communication within the department and with external stakeholders.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit departmental correspondences, reports, and other communication materials.
  • Manage departmental email correspondence and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner.

 Event Coordination:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing departmental events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Coordinate logistics, including venue booking, catering, and audio-visual requirements.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of events.

Project Management:

  • Support the department in project management tasks, including tracking project timelines and milestones.

Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct research on relevant issues and topics related to the department's advocacy efforts.
  • Summarize findings and present information to department members as needed.

Collaboration and Networking:

  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other departments, partner organizations, and community leaders.
  • Represent the department at meetings and events as required.

Budget Oversight:

  • Assist in managing the department's budget, including tracking expenses, processing invoices, and maintaining financial records.

Compliance:

  • Ensure the department's activities adhere to organizational policies.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three plus years of previous experience in administrative support or coordination roles.
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, history, and advocacy issues is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.
  • Willingness to periodically attend meetings and programs outside of standard working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and Sundays.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to AJC’s mission and values.

 The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000, depending on relevant experience and location.
