Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School (soon to become Smith Jewish Academy) seeks a skilled and dedicated Food Service Manager to lead our beloved lunch program. This full-time position (40 hours/week August-June, 30 hours/week in July) is central to the daily life of our community — supporting student health, upholding kashrut standards, and creating a warm and welcoming dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and prepare nutritious, kosher lunches for students and staff (approximately 220 meals per day, when in session)
Design monthly menus and special event meals
Supervise and schedule staff and volunteers (support hours not to exceed 30/week)
Train staff on food preparation, safety, and sanitation procedures
Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and state licensure
Monitor cleanliness and upkeep of kitchen and equipment; coordinate maintenance and repairs
Manage kitchen inventory, ordering, and portion control
Track monthly budget with supervisor and finance team
Coordinate food-related services with school departments and campus partners
Oversee emergency protocols for power or equipment outages
Qualifications:
Experience managing food service operations (school or institutional setting preferred)
Familiarity with Jewish dietary laws (kashrut) or willingness to learn
ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain)
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Comfort with basic budgeting and digital planning tools
