Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish campus life by becoming Tufts Hillel's Director of Operations. You'll be excellent in this role if you love working with logistics and systems, are committed to building great staff teams, and thrive in a dynamic and supportive environment. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations ensures the smooth and effective administration and financial management of Tufts Hillel and the Granoff Family Hillel Center. You will work in partnership with stakeholders to enhance and support Jewish life at one of the most robust student communities in the country. You will be responsible for financial and budgetary management, facility utilization, staff management and administration. You will also serve as a liaison to several university departments and to community agencies. You will help to ensure that programs and activities have the resources and tools to be highly successful.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow.
  • Create and review regular financial and budget reports with senior staff, board and other internal stake-holders.
  • Prepare budget presentations and reports for external stakeholders including donors and foundations. 
  • Coordinate audit and tax preparation activities.
  • Develop strategies to ensure cost savings and revenue maximization.
  • Oversee the management of all Hillel physical resources, including equipment, technology and facilities.
  • Ensure the effective collection and analysis of student engagement, financial and related metrics. 
  • Act as liaison to key Tufts departments including Facilities, Dining Services and Public Safety. 
  • Manage talent recruitment, onboarding and benefits administration in consultation with Hillel International and Hillel Council of New England.
  • Supervise professional administrative staff, students workers, and student interns.
  • Oversee logistics for organization-wide events.

What You've Accomplished

  • A minimum of 5-7 years related professional experience, preferably in a Jewish organization.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, graduate degree (e.g., MBA, Master of Management) preferred.
  • Built and monitored budgets, managed financial systems and produced financial and managerial reports.
  • Solid understanding of nonprofit financial and managerial accounting principles.
  • Hired and managed a team.
  • Familiarity with accounting and data management software, e.g. QuickBooks, Salesforce, etc.

  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information for nonfinancial people.
  • Excellent supervision skills and ability to coach others to achieve outcomes.
  • Building relationships with leaders within education or the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders including students, parents, alumnae/i, and university partners.
  • Management of multiple projects while maintaining quality.
  • Commitment to Hillel’s mission.
  • Familiarity with Jewish life and culture.
