Position DescriptionJCRC Director

Reports to: CEO

Classification: Full-time

Position Summary: The JCRC director is responsible for managing the community relations arm of theJewish Federation of Greater Dayton. In this capacity the JCRC Director will be responsible for working with a volunteer led committee dedicated to educating the Jewish community on a broad range of issues, building consensus, and representing the Jewish community to the Jewish and non-Jewish community. In addition, theJCRC director will be responsible for managing our relationship with our Israel Partnership2Gether consortium and our Sister City of Holon, Israel.

Mission: The mission of the Dayton Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) is to ensure the growth, resilience, and safety of the Jewish people in our community and nation, Israel, and throughout the world. TheJCRC works in collaboration with the greater Dayton community to foster cultural humility and advocate for a just, democratic, and pluralistic mosaic society. Essential Responsibilities:

PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN BOTH THE JEWISH & GENERAL COMMUNITIES:

  • Coordinate programs designed to educate the Jewish community on a range of public affairs topics including

Israel and International Affairs, Jewish security and civil rights, intergroup relations, and social justice.

  • Dismantle Antisemitism Initiative: Continue, develop, and implement programming to educate both the

Jewish community and greater Dayton community to proactively confront and dismantle antisemitism.

  • Lead JCRC’s antisemitism crisis management and prevention efforts.
  • Serve as a resource to, and initial line of defense for, families, schools, and other organizations following incidents of antisemitism.
  • Community Conversations: Continue, develop, and implement small and large group conversations for both the Jewish and greater Dayton communities that speak to relevant public affairs issues.
  • JCRC Committees: Continue, develop, and guide the direction of committees relevant to the mission, commitment, and principles of the JCRC.
  • Develop leadership and work with diverse constituencies in the Jewish community to enable the JCRC to continue to reflect political, religious, and geographical balance as well as a commitment to use a deliberative and respectful process to debate complex issues and where appropriate, build consensus.
  • Represent the interests of the Jewish community to the non-Jewish community through coalition building and maintaining a broad network of contacts among leaders in religious, civic, and political affairs as well as the media.
  • Enable the JCRC to serve as a clearinghouse for information on the local Jewish community for internal and external sources.
  • Manage and further develop the JCRC Speakers Bureau that represents Jewish educational topics within the

Jewish community and for the community at large.

PARTNERSHIP2GETHER & OVERSEAS INITIATIVES:

  • Manage the programs and activities of our Partnership community with the Western Galilee.
  • Build a community of interested constituents and leadership to participate in the programs and activities of the Partnership.
  • Strengthen and expand JCRC’s Israel programming for the Jewish and non-Jewish greater Dayton communities.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for Israel information, or responses to Israel-related events.
  • Develop and implement strategies to confront local manifestations of the BDS movement and the delegitimization of Israel.
  • Coordinate Sister City activities in collaboration with Holon, Israel and Dayton, Ohio.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably a master’s degree.
  • Minimum of two years lay or professional experience in a community organization.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic hands-on professional style.
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish practices, customs, history, and community organization is essential.
