Description

The Leffell School is a dynamic, K-12 independent Jewish school serving approximately 860 students in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City. We emphasize academic excellence, traditional Jewish learning and values, and a strong sense of community.

Our Middle School is seeking a dynamic, passionate rabbi and Jewish educator who has experience envisioning, planning, and leading impactful, innovative Jewish experiences for middle school students.

Working collaboratively and creatively with our Middle School Principal and as a member of the Leadership Team, the Rabbi in Residence will lead our Jewish experiential program, envisioning and bringing to fruition programming connected to Jewish and other holidays, trips, shabbatonim, and Jewish life in the middle school generally. This colleague will also lead our Tefilah program, and coordinate our Bnei Mitzvah celebration and tracking efforts.

At the Leffell School, we seek to ground our students in rigorous study of Jewish text, to engender a love of Talmud Torah, and to help our students develop the skills to support lifelong learning. As a teacher, the Rabbi in Residence will teach a reduced course load and be capable of creating active lessons that engage students in content, while teaching critical skills for text learning, all while engendering a love of Judaism in the process. He or she will have mastery in teaching either Tanakh or Talmud or both, as well as Limudei Kodesh more broadly in a middle school setting.

Qualifications: This is a leadership position geared to a candidate with rabbinic ordination, at least several years of formal day school Judaic teaching experience, as well as experience with informal Jewish education. Candidates without ordination who possess a similar skillset are also encouraged to apply. A background in Jewish summer camping will be helpful. A master’s degree in Jewish Education, Bible, or Talmud is preferred. Generous compensation commensurate with experience.
