The ECC Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing the ECC program to teach young children.  They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant state legislation and TBESOC policies.  The Teacher will be respectful of children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained. 


All personnel shall be in good health and shall be physically and mentally capable of performing assignments as stated in Department of Social Services, Title 22 Section 101216, and Personnel Requirements A-L.

ECC Teacher would normally attain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for the position through completion of a post-secondary Early Childhood Education Program combined with related day care and/or preschool teaching experience.  Equivalencies will be considered.


Key Responsibilities


  • To interact with children and encourage their involvement in activities
  • Build children’s self esteem
  • To plan lessons and activities based on curriculum discussed at Curriculum and Staff Meetings
  • To provide assistant with the opportunity to have input into the program
  • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior
  • Develop and maintain current, accurate notes for Progress Reports
  • Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate
  • To supervise and train assistant teachers
  • To establish and maintain good communication with parents and all ECC staff members
  • Attend staff orientation, meetings, Open Houses, CPR/First Aid classes as needed, workshops, and end of year events
  • To keep Director informed of any repairs needed to any equipment either in the classroom or on the playground
  • To relate joyfully and sensitively to children
  • To have the capability of handling crisis situations and to keep Director informed of any unusual incidents
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Integrate special needs children in a positive, respectful manner and work cooperatively with FIPP facilitator
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inviting learning environment
  • As mandated by law, report any suspected cases of child abuse


Education/Experience Requirements


ECC Teacher should hold a minimum of 12 units in Early Childhood Education and an AA degree or higher in Early Childhood Development from an accredited college or university. At least one year of classroom experience is desired.
