CSZ Village Manager

Summary: Reporting into the Congregation Shaarey Zedek (CSZ) Executive Director, the CSZ Village Manager is charged with all aspects of programming, fundraising, and operations of the CSZ Village (currently defined as members and engaged participants ages 45 and younger).  This is a full-time regular exempt (managerial) position.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grow and operate the CSZ Village.
  2. Collaborate with CSZ clergy and other CSZ staff to design and implement programming designed to engage younger Jews (45 and younger) in the greater Detroit area.
  3. Partner with external organizations to create engaging programming and to bring credibility to the program.
  4. Realize year over year growth in revenue through program-related donations and other monetary contributions of at least $25,000 in year 1.
  5. Operate and manage all programming related to youth and family at CSZ in collaboration with clergy and CSZ Youth & Family Learning staff.
  6. Partner with other CSZ staff and volunteers to create and execute marketing, driving awareness and engagement in CSZ Village programming.
  7. Increase the penetration of the CSZ Village by 20% Year over Year (number of people attending at least one event per year).
  8. Collaborate with other CSZ staff, clergy, and lay leadership to ensure strategic and operational coherence of CSZ Village activities and other CSZ offerings.

Key Relationships

  1. This position will report to the Executive Director and have a dotted-line reporting relationship to Rabbi Dahlen for strategic and programmatic guidance.
  2. Work collaboratively with the Director of Youth & Family Learning to develop and execute programming targeting children, families with young children and CSZ-involved youth.
  3. Work with the Marketing & Communications Specialist to ensure brand coherence. This position will take leadership of communications and marketing directed to CSZ Village.

Skills Required

  1. Leadership – This position will be responsible for partnering with Rabbi Dahlen to articulate the vision and working internally to align that vision for developing and growing the CSZ Village in a way that drives up engagement with younger Jewish families (oldest members under the age of 45) including driving incremental revenue from this cohort.
  2. Project Management – This position will take on responsibility for executing with excellence the programs and operations of the CSZ Village. He/she/they will need to work with clergy and staff to ensure that they are getting the support and resources they need to be successful and to ensure that the execution of programs and events are best in class.
  3. Collaboration and Communication – This role must be able to collaborate effectively with internal CSZ employees including clergy, volunteers, the CSZ Village, and external partners. Strong written and verbal skills will be important to this role.
  4. Fundraising – a key to the CSZ Village model will be building an experiential pay for the value you receive model in which incremental revenue will be expected from those attending events and engaging with the CSZ Village over time. This role must be able to cultivate ad hoc donations from attendees.
  5. Relationships – This role should be able to leverage current Detroit area relationships with families that may wish to engage with the CSZ Village and with potential external partners.
  6. Initiative and Self-Starting – This role must be able to operate autonomously much of the time, referring to leadership to help guide decisions with strategic importance.

Success Criteria

  1. Growth of the CSZ Village is defined as both the number of unique family units that attend at least one event or program each year and the total number of people attending events or programs throughout the year.
  2. The revenue that CSZ receives from individuals under the age of 45 (combination of traditional dues and donations).
  3. Increase in the perception that CSZ is a great place for young Jewish families (in terms of content, Jewish engagement). This will be measured by year-over-year surveys of this cohort.
