Director of Youth and Young Family Engagement

 Position Overview: The Director of Youth Engagement focuses on building and implementing engaging programming for ages 0-18, as well as creating meaningful opportunities for our youth and their families to explore their Judaism in developmentally appropriate ways and connect with the Mosaic Law community.

 Core Responsibilities: 

 Youth / Educational Programming

  • Collaborate with synagogue leadership to identify age-appropriate youth activities
  • Develop and implement plans to engage youth. Options for engagement may include informational sessions, surveys, virtual meetings and/or individual meet ups.
  • Assist with school enrollment, parent communication, and student engagementby supporting prospective and current families throughout the enrollment process, maintaining regular and responsive communication with parents, and helping create a warm, inclusive environment that encourages active student participation.
  • Design and implement meaningful, age-appropriate Jewish programming for synagogue youth. Specific programs to be determined in collaboration with the Education Director.
  • Oversee youth group programming at the synagogue level, and encourage participation in local, regional and national programming-when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Education Director to develop and support Shabbat morning programming for youth (0-5 years and 6-12 years) and families (4 times per month).
  • Create post Bar/Bat Mitzvah programming in partnership with synagogue leadership that transitions from our Mercaz Religious School program.
  • Be responsible for all youth group-related communications using synagogue approved social media and other publications as needed (Jewish Federation, local school publications, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain calendar of youth activities and provide communication to the synagogue community after key events
  • Collaborate with other youth directors/teen program directors for ongoing support, program development and gain understanding of "best practices"
  • Act as a liaison with national organization (USCJ)

 Community Building & Communication 

  • Develop effective marketing strategies to engage youth and families
  • Maintain regular communication with families and young families

Leadership Development 

  • Mentor youth through their teenage years to develop future Jewish leaders
  • Cultivate youth leadership opportunities within and beyond the Jewish community

Administrative Oversight 

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and manage program budgets
  • Support fundraising efforts and grant applications relevant to youth programs-through funds offered by USCJ and other such organizations

Reports to:

  • Executive Director

Required Experience 

  • 3-4 years working with youth in Jewish educational settings (school, camp, synagogue)
  • Demonstrated success in program development and implementation

Essential Skills 

  • Strong team partner
  • Expertise working with middle and high school-aged youth
  • Ability to develop age-appropriate programming
  • Experience supporting children with special needs and mental health challenges
  • Understanding child safety regulations and youth engagement best practices
