Director of Lifelong Learning 

About Congregation Shir Tikvah 

Shir Tikvah is a Reform/Renewal congregation in Troy, Michigan. We pride ourselves on our caring community which is diverse and accepting of all. We have 204 member families of diverse backgrounds. Our school, which we call our Family Education Program, consists of both a religious school, which is piloting an innovative new curriculum specifically designed for us and engaging programs and activities for all families. Collaboratively with our many volunteers, staff also provide opportunities for learning at all ages. 

Job description 

The Director of Lifelong Learning works in partnership with our professional staff to direct our Family Education program. They will also oversee educational opportunities and activities for teens and adults. The position is for 20-25 hours per week, with hours varying across the school year and breaks.  The Director of Lifelong Learning is supervised by Rabbi Alicia Harris and is responsible to the Board of Trustees. 

Key components of the role include: 

General: 

  • Maintain good relationships with staff and congregants. 
  • Vision and implement opportunities for lifelong learning for members at every age. 
  • Collaborate as a member of the leadership team with other senior staff,  
  • Engage in ongoing opportunities for professional growth 

 

 Family Education (religious school and related family/adult programming) 

  • Direct and administer our Religious School Programs, including the enrollment of students and families, implementation and fine-tuning of our recently developed curriculum and ongoing communication with students, parents and the congregation.  
  • Hire, mentor and evaluate teaching staff and madrichim for the Family Education Program
  • Support the education/curriculum committee in reviewing, evaluating and altering the curriculum as needed
  • Manage and support educational and social activities for teens, including the youth group advisor
  • Manage and support young family programming, including holiday programming.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to plan and oversee adult education programs 
  • Manage school administrative functions, including school budget, supplies, record keeping, data management and other responsibilities as appropriate. 
  • Attend Sunday Family Education sessions, family holiday activities and special events, staff meetings, education/curriculum committee meetings, Board meetings as appropriate and actively supervise Tuesday evening virtual school,  

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field. Administrative certification is preferred. 
  • History of successful teaching, preferably in or related to Jewish education 
  • Experience in school administration preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of Judaism 

Salary Range 

  • $35,000-$40,000 per year
