TBS Hudson Education Director Job description

Temple Beth Shalom, Hudson is seeking a part-time Education Director to work 15-20 hours per week running our small religious school program for Jewish children. We are a small Reform synagogue, and our rabbi is a graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.

Our education director needs to be completely comfortable working with interfaith families in a liberal setting. We are seeking a strong educator who can also administer our school program. 

You bring a love and creative spirit for Jewish education, Jewish community and Jewish values.

Compensation is competitive with similar settings.

Education Director Requirements:

  • Passion for Jewish education
  • Love of working with school-aged children
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Teaching credential preferred
  • Teaching experience – minimum 2 years
  • Judaic education background – minimum 2 years
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Superb people skills, confidence in engaging individuals from a variety of backgrounds
  • Energetic, passionate, and able to clearly communicate objectives.
  • A strong ethical code.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be open to feedback.

 Education Director Responsibilities:

  • Hire, monitor & mentor religious school teachers
  • Supervise all teacher recruitment and vet prospective teachers
  • Develop, edit curriculum for K-8 grade with the help of teachers, students, others
  • Lesson plans created by each teacher -reviewed & approved by Education Director
  • Lead school programs
  • Supervise all Sunday religious school sessions
  • School year - August-May at TBS
  • Develop school calendar in May for next school session with approval of Rabbi and Board of Trustees
  • Sunday Class hours 9:00-12:00 pm
  • Monitor, assist Thursday religious school sessions for 5-8th grade students, from 4:30-6:00pm
  • Partner with Rabbi on vision for: religious school, family programs, and family services
  • Weekly e-mail to parents regarding the upcoming week’s events
  • Regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress, opportunities for growth
  • Liaison between TBS & the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JEC) 
  • All communications including meetings & phone calls
  • Grant writing and follow through to payment
  • Networking, building professional relationships with temple members, Jewish community
