Synagogue Administrator

Congregation Beth Israel | Metairie, LA, United States

Posted Date 5/16/2022

Congregation Beth Israel is a Modern Orthodox congregation located in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana. An historic OU-affiliated congregation with a new, beautiful facility, we are a warm and inviting congregation, a mix of seniors and young families and both those whose families have been members for generations and recent additions to our community. We are now seeking a new Synagogue Administrator to join our family.

The Jewish community of greater New Orleans is unique and once experienced will be loved. The community boasts two Jewish Community Center locations, one just blocks away from Beth Israel; two Jewish day schools located in Metairie; three kosher restaurants, kosher catering, and the world famous Cafe Du Monde; two mikvahs; an expansive eruv surrounding Congregation Beth Israel; and much more.

The greater New Orleans area is perfect for families. While New Orleans tends to enjoy a reputation for tourism and conventions, the region is one of the best places in the country to raise children. Our unique New Orleans culture permeates everything, with a deference to family and focus on our local lifestyle of year-round festivals. The Metairie neighborhood is the idyllic combination of quiet, safe, affordable suburban life with proximity to all things New Orleans. All these factors combine to make the area an attractive home.

Synagogue Administrator Responsibilities
The Synagogue Administrator is responsible for the management and implementation of all programs and policies set by Congregation Beth Israel’s Officers and Board of Directors. The Administrator reports directly to the President, works closely with the Rabbi, and directly supervises other staff hired by the Congregation. The Administrator coordinates with our lay leadership and volunteers on projects and strategic plans and provides critical knowledge and continuity during transition of new Officers and Board of Directors.

Facilities: Responsible for general facilities management, ensuring the property is ready for intended uses and helping to maintain schedules for smachot, holidays, classes, fundraisers, and other events. The Administrator oversees the cleaning crew, kitchen help, security details, and others hired to assist by the congregation. Other areas of responsibility include rental of the Social Hall, interfacing with vendors, and overseeing maintenance.

Records Keeping: Maintains the synagogue’s critical records, either as digital data and/or hard-copy filing system. The Administrator will work closely with the Synagogue’s bookkeeper to ensure that financial records are kept up to date, help manage the budgets for office related expenses, assist in the preparation of financial reporting, and assist with our receivables process, including collection of member dues or donations.

Additional proficiencies sought:
