Organization Overview 

The Jewish Community of the West (JCFW) is a vibrant, rapidly growing, inclusive organization dedicated to fostering Jewish culture, education, and community engagement across many different organizations. Our priorities include strengthening community connections, promoting Jewish values, supporting charitable initiatives, and enhancing outreach to diverse populations.

Position Summary

The Communications and Engagement will serve as a key member of JCFW, responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans, engaging with local Jewish organizations, and promoting JCFW’s programs and initiatives. This role requires a proactive individual with a passion for Jewish communal work, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of philanthropy and non-profit operations.

Key Responsibilities 

- Develop and execute communication strategies to engage community members, partner organizations, and the broader public.  

- Manage all organizational communications, including newsletters, social media, website content, press releases, and promotional materials.  

- Foster relationships with local temples, Jewish organizations, and community leaders to enhance outreach efforts.  

- Coordinate outreach events and campaigns to increase awareness and participation in JCFW programs.  

- Track and analyze communication metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategies.  

We are looking for someone who: 

Loves working with people, creating Jewish community and cultivating relationships among people at all life stages.

Possesses strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, understands and appreciates Jewish and synagogue culture, and has donor relations experience. 

Has exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate effectively with clergy, staff, lay leadership, volunteers, and all members of a Jewish community

Can manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short and long-term projects.

Can handle confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism. 

Is empathic and understanding when interacting with congregants and will help them feel valued for their ideas, passions, gifts, and skills.

Can reinforce our warm, friendly, and comfortable environment by interacting and communicating well within the community, both in person and via phone. 

Qualifications 

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, or a similar related field.  

- Strong knowledge of Jewish community dynamics, philanthropy, and non-profit organizational structures – 

- Preferred of 3 to 5 years’ experience in communications, outreach, and or community engagement.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience managing social media platforms and web content.  

- Ability to build relationships with diverse community stakeholders.  

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media management, and communications tools.
