Location: Hybrid (East Coast, Greater Washington area preferred)
Reports To: Executive Director

We're the leading voice advocating for expanding women's rights and opportunities within the framework of halakha (Jewish law), building a vibrant and equitable Orthodox community where all voices are heard and valued.

The Role: Strategic Storyteller & Voice of Change

As our Communications Manager, you won't just manage our messaging—you'll help shape the narrative of modern Orthodox feminism. On our lean, dynamic team, your voice will be instrumental in advancing our mission. You'll craft compelling stories that inspire action, build community, and challenge the status quo—all while honoring our commitment to halakha.

What You'll Do

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy that amplifies Jofa's mission and values
  • Serve as a key strategic voice on our team, helping shape organizational priorities and responses
  • Balance planned content with nimble, responsive advocacy when emerging issues demand our voice
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure consistent messaging across all programs and initiatives

Content Creation & Curation

  • Craft engaging content across multiple platforms that inspires action and builds community
  • Lead the production and promotion of the Jofa Journal, our flagship publication
  • Develop compelling narratives that make complex issues accessible and relatable
  • Create both planned content and responsive, timely advocacy materials as community needs arise

Digital & Community Engagement

  • Cultivate and grow Jofa's presence across digital platforms (website, email, social media)
  • Develop strategic campaigns that advance our mission and respond to community needs
  • Analyze engagement metrics to continuously refine our approach and expand our reach
  • Collaborate with our web vendor to ensure our digital presence reflects our values and meets community needs

Media Relations & Advocacy

  • Position Jofa as the go-to resource for media on Orthodox feminist issues
  • Develop relationships with Jewish and secular media outlets
  • Craft persuasive materials that advance our advocacy goals
  • Identify opportunities to amplify our message and influence key stakeholders

Development & Events

  • Partner with our team on fundraising communications that inspire support
  • Create compelling materials that showcase our impact and vision
  • Develop promotional strategies for events, webinars, and programs
  • Ensure consistent messaging before, during, and after events

Who You Are

  • A passionate advocate who embraces Jofa's mission of expanding women's rights within halakha
  • An exceptional storyteller with 3-5 years of communications experience, preferably in Jewish communal service or advocacy
  • Someone who understands the nuances of Orthodox Jewish life and the complexities of feminist advocacy
  • A strategic thinker who can balance immediacy with long-term vision
  • A creative problem-solver comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a mission-driven environment
  • A quick study who can evaluate and integrate new tools and platforms
  • Someone with strong working knowledge of Hebrew and Jewish texts
  • A detail-oriented project manager who delivers excellence on deadline

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with digital content creation and management tools (WordPress, Constant Contact, etc.)
  • Experience with social media management and analytics
  • Design capabilities using platforms like Canva
  • Familiarity with print production processes
  • Comfort learning and evaluating new communications tools as they emerge
