POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing several of Camp Judaea’s fundraising initiatives, including, annual fund, scholarship campaign and special events. The Development Officer supports the camp’s efforts related to the most recent capital campaign, especially related to donor stewardship. This position works closely with the Camp Director, Development Committee and Chair of the Board in all development & fundraising endeavors.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fund Development (Cultivation, Solicitations and Stewardship)

  • Plan, manage and implement all aspects of short-term and long-range campaigns, including development of campaign materials, events for donor solicitation and donor recognition.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive and coordinated philanthropy strategies and prospect research. 
  • Research and write grant proposals, provide periodic updates as required by grantors.
  • Establish strong working relationships with local funders and management of donor and grant records management system.
  • Support growth of our Annual Fund program including timeline, momentum and Development Committee management.
  • Build our major gift program including research, identification, and preparation for lay cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  • Cultivate prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis and track donor meetings in the donor management system.
  • Maintain and expand gift recognition programs for various giving levels.
  • Implement naming opportunities.
  • Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities including: advertisements, marketing materials, annual impact report, website development and maintenance, and all other development and engagement communications to the public.
  • Manage Lay Leadership solicitation assignments with regular communication
  • Prepare for and participate in Board Development Committee meetings.

Database Management and Reporting

  • Manage Development database and updates of constituent records to ensure accurate data for both constituent records and donations including meeting notes.
  • Oversee the gift process from start to finish from pledge confirmation emails, acknowledgement letters, and billing both mailed and/or via email.
  •  Develop, run, and review routine donor and gift reporting audits to ensure accurate gift entry and acknowledgment. 
  • Provide reporting on donor giving, tracking campaign progress, as well as maintain accurate record keeping in the database for our constituencies, including alumni, parents of alumni, and grandparent communities. This includes, but not limited to, contact and professional information, relationships, education, and biographical data.
  • Collaborate with the business personnel to reconcile and monthly development financials.

Alumni Engagement and Professional Networking

  • Develop innovative strategies to engage alumni.
  • Maintain life-event data, and outreach to alumni, current families and constituents. 
  • Actively network with colleagues in related agencies and professional organizations. Collaborate with alumni associations, professional networks, and industry partners to establish opportunities for networking and professional development.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships. Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Establish and maintain routines around data recording and follow up.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
  • A bachelor’s degree and 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising or similar field, preferably in a Jewish environment.
  • Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team.

  • Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

  • Negotiable: able to relocate to camp (in Hendersonville, NC) at the end of May through early August. Housing and meals will be provided. 
  • Travel for events is a shared responsibility for the entire year-round team - candidates must be able to travel for camper recruitment, job fairs and conferences throughout the year.
