Education Director

Dear Candidate,

I write on behalf of the Temple Beth Shalom ("TBS) Board of Directors to provide this Education Director employment offer for your consideration.

The Education Director oversees the TBS Torah School and Preschool Program. Regular classes are held on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00pm and Saturdays from 9-noon and/or in coordination with TBS clergy and the TBS Education Committee. Monthly or bi­ monthly services are held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings as well. The Education Director position requires self-reliance and self-motivating skills. A warm, encouraging outlook and personality are essential. The Education Director's general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Be on site for classes
• Maintain regular on-site work hours
• Collaborate with clergy, Board of Directors, and Education Committee regarding curriculum, special programs, Shabbat services and other school needs
• Prepare/implement written curriculum
• Recruit, interview, hire, train, and mange teaching and assistant teaching staff.
• Handle student registration and maintain attendance records
• Develop school budget and handle financial matters
• Prepare school calendar
• Coordinate and attend Havdalah Nights (programming, education, food)
• Schedule and help coordinate B’nai Mitzvahs, meet with families to discuss timeline and expectations
• Teach classes in the case of a teacher absence
• Coordinate preschool program/development
• Coordinate High Holy Days youth programming (not childcare)
• Purchase education materials, snacks, and crafts within the budget
• Engage in school marketing and outreach efforts
• Try to broaden reach to attract children of unaffiliated families living at a distance to the Torah school
• Coordinate Friday night family programs and Saturday "Ruach Shabbat" services. 

Increasing enrollment is a primary goal and a key responsibility/focus will be school marketing and outreach efforts.

The annual salary for this position is $27,000$ ($2,250 monthly) starting 1 September 2025.  

Temple Beth Shalom employees do not participate in the California State Disability Insurance program and are not entitled to California Disability Insurance benefits. In addition, TBS does not participate in the California Unemployment Insurance program and former employees are not entitled to California unemployment insurance benefits.
