EMPLOYEE: Communications Manager
DEPARTMENT: Communications
SUPERVISOR: Director of Media & Communications
STATUS: Non-Exempt, hourly

POSITION SUMMARY
Sinai Temple is a renowned and thriving institution committed to serving the spiritual, cultural, and communal needs of our 1,500 diverse members. Multi-generational families, millennials, families with young children, and seniors all have a home at Sinai Temple. We are seeking a creative, organized, tech-savvy and self-motivated Communications Coordinator to provide our members with accurate and compelling information on programming initiatives, religious services and engagement opportunities. The individual in this position will manage a robust Temple’s email communications, develop and implement an editorial calendar and maintain an effective website. This individual must be able to complete ongoing daily and weekly communication needs while at the same time be forward thinking and strategic, anticipating future events and communication needs. The ideal candidate is creative, quick, possesses strong organizational skills, the ability to communicate with diverse audiences, the ability to collaborate and guide multiple personalities, and can juggle ongoing projects at the same time. Knowledge of Jewish culture, religious traditions and familiarity of the rhythms of the Jewish year are a plus. We are looking for someone who can kickstart the communications process across multiple Temple departments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement holistic email communication strategy

  • Develop and implement calendar of all email communications.
  • Coordinate the writing, editing, and timing of e-mail communications, including but not limited to: weekly newsletters, weekly Shabbat information, clergy blogs and sermons, updates on special events, Sisterhood Scoop, Mens Club emails, etc.
  • Create and implement campaigns for large-scale events and initiatives (e.g., High Holy Days, religious observances, holidays, educational series, conferences, and more.
  • Communicate with multiple departments communication/ marketing goals and timelines.
  • Holds others accountable for smooth implementation of a communications process.
  • Manages distribution lists on an ongoing basis.
  • Gathers data and analyzes email performance reports, with an eye towards improvement.
  • Create promotional flyers for multiple departments, that are both visually appealing, and provide information in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Assist multiple Temple stakeholders with their communications.
    • Sisterhood
    • Men's Club
    •  Singles Groups
    • Dor Chadash (Families with young children)

Manage Sinai Temple website content

  • Manage website content, including but not limited to:
    • Weekly Shabbat schedule
    • Weekly Yahrzeit lists
    • Upcoming event information
    • Event registration system
  • Maintain website calendar
  • Ensure all public-facing programs are listed correctly; make additional website content updates as needed.
  • Manage the vetting, uploading, and updating of photos
  • Collaborate with other staff on program registration.
  • Devise and implement strategies to drive traffic to the website and other digital platforms
  • Identify and implement ways to improve the website as a tool for marketing and promotion of Sinai Temple

Social Media Communications

  • Work collaboratively with Communications Department to determine weekly social media plan
  • Craft compelling language for daily posts
  • Edit and implement daily posts on all Sinai Temple platforms, including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Monitor social media accounts on ongoing basis to respond to incoming inquiries

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend Sinai Temple events as needed to generate content and photos
  • Work in collaboration with all Sinai Temple departments—we believe strongly in interdepartmental collaboration and expect all staff to work in close partnership with each other.
  • Be present and support key Temple events throughout the year as determined by the Executive Director
  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook • Proficiency of main social media apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat) required.
  • Comfort with google forms, registration platforms, etc.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS/ IS….

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, communications, English, or related field
  • 2 years of professional work experience in the field of communications.
  • Direct email marketing experience, including strategy, implementation, analytics, and reporting
  • Previous experience using Constant Contact.
  • Experience with WordPress
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) in a PC environment
  • Comfortable learning new programs is essential.
  • Extremely strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting on key metrics.
  • Proficiency in graphic design programs such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Graphic Arts experience
  • Self-starter; able to work independently and enjoys creating new projects and strategies
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A general knowledge of Jewish holidays, customs and the flow of the Jewish year

SALARY & BENEFITS: Compensation commensurate with experience with generous benefits package including full health, vision, and dental coverage. Range: $30- $33/hour
