About Us

Lehrman Community Day School is a pluralistic Jewish Day School located in Miami Beach, FL, just south of the Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor, and Surfside communities.  Lehrman Community Day School was founded in 1960 by Rabbi Irving Lehrman and is the only pluralistic Jewish day school in Miami Beach.  Our school is open to children from preschool through the fifth grade, committed to academic excellence and Jewish values in a caring and nurturing Jewish environment. Now in our second half century, Lehrman has educated generations of Jewish children; many of our current students are the children of alumni, an endorsement of the school and its dedicated and talented teachers. 

 

Job Description

The Director of Technology is responsible for managing the daily operations of all school technology functions by providing overall strategic technology support to faculty, staff, and administration. He or she will manage the school-based technology infrastructure, short and long term technology planning, purchasing, end-user support and training, working with vendors and outside services management, and school-based data management. 

 

The successful candidate has excellent written and verbal communications skills, is highly organized, and can successfully manage multiple projects at once. They should be comfortable working with all departments in a school environment including Admissions, Advancement, Academics, and Business Office and should understand these departments processes, workflows, norms and goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, hardware/software providers, consultants, auditors, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Managing the configuration, installation, maintenance, and ongoing support of the school’s network infrastructure
  • Maintain Google Cloud platform and virtual storage servers; Manages GSuite for Education including user management, security, training, and support
  • Maintain network devices including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points
  • Manages contractor for all software services such as DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, File and Print Services
  • Managing Learning Management (LMS) Student Information System (RenWeb/FACTS)
  • Support all users across all departments in day-to-day operations
  • Ensure the proper deployment of annual school scheduling management and report cards/ transcripts
  • Planning, purchasing, deployment, maintenance, training, and support of all faculty, staff, and admin desktop, laptops, and tablets.
  • Installation, support, and training of all classroom technology including SMARTBoards, interactive projectors, Apple TVs, speakers, and other peripheral technology devices.
  • Management of a one-to-one student technology device program including purchasing and deploying laptops and tablets, providing end-user technical support, maintaining accurate record keeping, and ensuring warranty replacements.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date and complete documentation of the school network, hardware, servers, systems, and recovery processes                
  • Long and short term planning of technology purchases, upgrades, and system maintenance, including the creation and implementation of a multi-year technology plan
  • Work with outsourced company on the management of various technology systems 
  • A/V setup and operation during special events (which sometimes occur outside of normal working hours)
  • Support families in their use of the School’s LMS (RenWeb) 
  • Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Provides leadership and technical support for the purpose of designing, developing and maintaining an efficient, unified and fully integrated technology system.
  • Research topics related to current and emerging technology (e.g. relevant policies, current practices, staffing requirements, financial resources, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs/services, ensuring program compliance with established requirements, securing general information and/or responding to requests.
  • Technology teaching experience with students is a plus.

 

Support

  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to technical difficulties with technology hardware, software, network, virtual conferencing, and AV systems
  • Maintain, monitor and troubleshoot Chromebooks, iPads, Apple laptops/desktops, printers, and other IT equipment.
  • Track, prioritize and document requests using an IT support request system. 
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of hardware, software, and IT systems
  • Conduct research on computer products in support of procurement and development efforts Evaluate and recommend hardware products for purchase
  •  Schedule and perform frequent technology equipment and system improvements, upgrades and repairs
  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning to meet future technology needs
  • Function as the liaison between the School and third-party support and equipment vendors.

 

Required Qualifications:  

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as an Independent School Director of Technology or in a similar position, as well as demonstrated commitment to Lehrman’s mission, values, and philosophy.  In addition, he or she will have:

 

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Student Information Systems, Classroom technology maintenance/support, Google Suite, Apple Suite, Cloud-Based services, Audio Visual Equipment, Printer Maintenance, VoIP telecommunication equipment, network connectivity, systems account management,
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Commitment to collaboration and team mindedness and a deep understanding of all elements of educational technology.
  • The ability and desire to connect meaningfully with parents and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
