The Opportunity

Hillel Ontario is seeking a Manager of Holocaust Education who will create and manage a robust portfolio focused on Holocaust education, leadership development, and student-led programming. This position will encompass developing curricula for and overseeing student cohorts on each campus, as well as guiding the vision and strategy for Holocaust programming overall. The candidate will create an educational framework that builds up a cohort of student leaders to bring Holocaust awareness and education to Hillel Ontario’s nine campuses through innovative and thoughtful programming. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a curriculum for Holocaust education and related skills, as well as a plan for cohort recruitment.
  • In coordination with the Director of Education and Mobilization and campus staff teams, oversee SHARE Fellowship: Students for Holocaust Awareness, Remembrance and Education
  • Empower SHARE fellows and students to build on their understanding of the Holocaust, creating educational programs and initiatives in partnership with other members of their campus communities
  • Mentor SHARE fellows and Hillel student leaders, facilitating multidimensional leadership development
  • Support SHARE fellows and student leaders in planning and executing Hillel Ontario’s annual Holocaust Education Week programming on each campus
  • Visit campuses on a regular basis to support student-driven programming and provide training and education for campus staff and students
  • Coordinate and convene large-scale cross-campus initiatives, speakers, gatherings, and other opportunities related to Holocaust education and remembrance and beyond
  • Be responsible for tracking engagement and inputting data into HEaRT
  • Proactively collaborate and coordinate with community partners and agencies, specifically those focused on Holocaust education and commemoration

What You Bring

The Manager of Holocaust Education is a creative and engaging individual with a strong Jewish educational background, particularly in history and Holocaust Studies, as well as contemporary Holocaust pedagogy. They understand and promote best practices in formal and informal educational experiences. 

The manager also has a high level of emotional intelligence, is masterful at building, cultivating and maintaining relationships, and is able to work collaboratively in a complex, fast-paced, and geographically dispersed environment.

The right candidate subscribes to Hillel Ontario’s mission, values, and goals of student engagement, leadership development, and advancing Jewish knowledge, awareness, and advocacy on campuses in Ontario.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate in a related field, and 2+ years relevant experience in Holocaust education
  • Experience working in educational or post-secondary environments, with an understanding of campus dynamics and student engagement
  • Leadership experience

Abilities and Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative, team environment
  • An ability to multitask and troubleshoot effectively
  • Knowledge and experience with network management, social networking, and social media
  • The interest and ability to build and maintain effective and meaningful relationships with staff and university students
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Energy, versatility, flexibility and maturity
  • Collaborate with different departments within the organization on projects and initiatives
