Overview and purpose:
The Development Associate is Harlam’s key professional for the coordination and support of development activities, communications, correspondence, and, most importantly, data and information management. Working closely with the Development Director (DD) and Camp Director, the DA will organize the array of development resources, materials, and responsibilities in a way that allows for high-efficiency and success for Harlam’s overall reporting and tracking, outreach and cultivation, follow-up and stewardship, and other critical philanthropic work.

URJ Camp Harlam has a year-round Professional Staff of 8 team members. Our year-round office is in Bala Cynwyd, PA (a suburb of Philadelphia), and the camp is located in Kunkletown, PA (foothills of the Poconos). The Harlam Development team is currently comprised of a Development Director who works closely on all fundraising efforts with the Camp Director. We have strengthened the culture of philanthropy within the Harlam community, and we look forward to expanding our team.
What You’ll Do as the Harlam Development Associate:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:
Partnership with Development Director
Works closely with the DD (and Director), positioning them to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals and organizations.
Assist DD with the facilitation of identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
Assist DD (and Director) to manage relationships and coordinate development activities.
Interface with Harlam lay leaders and other URJ Development professionals to assist in the facilitation and coordination of development efforts.
Assist with prospect research for funder and donor cultivation and stewardship.
Help plan and execute donor cultivation, celebration, and solicitation events.
Development of Data & Information Management
Primary oversight of all data and information systems, to include:
Maintain donor database (Salesforce), ensuring data accuracy and system integrity
Manage and execute the donor acknowledgment process.
Direct input or coordination of input for all donations in current systems.
Tracking and reporting of donations and donors to review and strategize.
Configure and manage database query and reporting; understand and recommend best practices as a result of the analysis.
Responsible for maintaining pledge tracking and invoicing of pledge payments.
Coordination of data entry and reporting with URJ development department colleagues and resources.
Development of Correspondence & Reporting
Assist in the production and mailing of appeals, newsletters, reports or other materials to donors and/or prospects.
Assist with design and execution of regular reporting (with DD and Director) for gifts, campaigns, targets, etc.
Coordinate development reporting and information sharing for development volunteers and partners.
Process timely gift acknowledgment letters, tributes, pledge acknowledgments, manage gift processing, and assist with financial reconciliations.
Development Cycle Support
To support success in Harlam’s identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors, the DA will:
Create and assist in the management of donor prospect lists.
Review reporting on donor research and assist with research wherever possible.
Assist with tracking of donor touchpoints and assistance with the setup of donor interactions/meetings.
Assist with preparation of materials and resources for donor meetings.
Assist with donor stewardship activities, as needed.
Qualifications and experience:
Proven experience and skills within systems management, communications, correspondence, organization, and reporting is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Salesforce or other similar CRM systems is preferred.
Significant understanding of the essence and unique value of a camp environment, as well as knowledge of Jewish camp trends and practice, is strongly preferred.
Prior success in a professional setting is required, and experience in the for-profit or non-profit fields is preferred.
The ability to work independently and proactively, as well as the capacity for effective written and verbal communications, is required.
Familiarity with Judaism and Jewish education (formal and/or informal) is highly desirable.
A positive outlook, winning smile, firm handshake, advanced interpersonal skills, and a high level of enthusiasm for making a difference in the lives of Jewish children, adults, and families is an asset.
This position will be located at the year-round office location in Bala Cynwyd, PA, and has the potential to be remote.
