Mishkan Shalom Synagogue is seeking a half-time Membership and Communications Coordinator to spearhead membership and communication efforts to help sustain and grow our synagogue. This person will report to the lead Rabbi, partner with the designated board representative and work closely with staff, board members, the Chairs of the Membership and Fundraising Committees, as well as programmatic offerings. The Coordinator will have the opportunity to enhance the congregation’s membership, internal and external communications, and help sustain and grow our community.
Membership and Communications:
Enhance and increase Mishkan Shalom’s visibility within Philadelphia’s Jewish community, and in the community at large.
In coordination with Mishkan Shalom’s leadership, staff and established plans, manage and implement traditional, web and social media communications, and oversee content and messaging.
Help produce synagogue member communications in partnership with lay and Rabbinic leadership including but not limited to weekly eblasts, a monthly newsletter, website content.
Maintain and develop systems and strategies to connect with and expand membership and programming in partnership with staff and volunteers.
Develop systems and strategies to retain and cultivate members including regular communication with congregants regarding financial pledges and commitments and engagement opportunities.
Provide support for staff members and Board leadership.
Manage volunteers and subcontracted staff who support Mishkan Shalom’s Communications and Membership functions.
Work with the office administrator to oversee the membership renewal process, including managing the renewal calendar, coordinating communications, overseeing the online payment portal, tracking payments.
Membership engagement and programming, including assistance in designing fundraising events, support for High Holidays, assistance with processes for onboarding new members.
Provide support for Mishkan Shalom’s fundraising activities and communications follow-up working closely with staff, lay leaders and board members.
Assist in tracking donor data and communications.
Provide support to lay leaders, volunteers and staff members with the coordination, promotion and development opportunities relating to special events.
Assist staff and lay leadership with grant opportunities and requests.
Assist with development and maintenance of effective systems for tracking donations from both members and non-members.
3-plus years experience in non-profit organizations and/or membership.
Demonstrated skills in organizational, managerial, and communication.
Experience in developing and implementing fundraising and communications strategies.
Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
A track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
Collaborative, relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse.
Commitment to work in partnership with and empower all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
Self-starter and entrepreneurial, able to work independently, enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
Experience with nonprofit, Jewish communal, or faith communities is an asset.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a salaried half-time position at 20-25 hrs a week. Salary to be negotiated based on experience. Benefits are not included.
