Yaffed is seeking to hire a Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs to lead our efforts to educate government officials about the educational neglect in Haredi Yeshivas and how this issue can be addressed through regulation and enforcement. The Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs will coordinate efforts to engage and educate government officials at local, state and federal levels to ensure that the issue of secular education in Yeshivas remains a priority and that serious steps are taken to ensure proper oversight and enforcement of substantial equivalency in non-public schools.
Ongoing Tasks for the Director of Advocacy and Governmental Affairs will include:
Tracking legislation
Reviewing and drafting legislation and amendments
Analyzing agency funding streams and budget legislation
Maintaining a calendar of hearings, votes, important dates, conferences, etc.
Scheduling and attending meetings with legislators and other policymakers (remotely and in person when possible)
Leading advocacy trips to Albany and local legislatures when in person meetings resume
Organizing and leading forums and educational events for legislators, their staff, and the public (both remotely and in person when possible)
Maintain compliance with all required JCOPE filings, bi-monthly and annually.
Required Skills:
Strong commitment to Yaffed’s mission and vision
Highly organized, great management skills
Minimum of BA in related field
Fluent English
Superb communication skills, including public speaking
Willingness and ability to travel to and from Albany and New York City
Experience:
3-5 years prior experience in advocacy
Salary of $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience
